5G FIXED WIRELESS ACCESS YIELDS US$2.5 BILLION OPERATOR REVENUE BY 2023 - JUNIPER RESEARCH

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 20 (Bernama) -- Total operator-billed revenue generated from 5G Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) services will rise from US$515 million in 2022 to US$2.5 billion next year, according to a new study by Juniper Research. (US$1 = RM4.547)

This staggering growth will be driven by 5G’s advanced network capabilities, such as ultra-low delay and increased data processing to provide connectivity services that were previously unachievable with 4G technology, according to a statement.

FWA includes services that provide high-speed Internet connectivity through cellular‑enabled Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) for uses including broadband and IoT networks.

The research predicts that operators’ 5G FWA revenue will reach US$24 billion globally by 2027. It identified the consumer market as the sector generating the highest revenue for operators; representing 96 per cent of global 5G FWA revenue.

However, it warns that operators must provide a compelling user proposition for FWA solutions through the bundling of services such as video streaming, gaming and smart home security to enrich user experience and gain competitive advantage against incumbent high‑speed connectivity technologies, such as Fibre‑to‑the‑Property (FTTP).

The report also identified private networks as a key monetisation opportunity; offering superior network capabilities over 4G. Smart manufacturing, shipping ports and airports are the key use cases for 5G FWA.

It recommends that operators use 5G FWA to facilitate the last mile-solution by treating the relationship between FWA and fibre networks as wholly collaborative to maximise network performance and return on investment.

5TH CHINA INTERNATIONAL IMPORT EXPO TO CONTINUE SHARING CHINA MARKET OPPORTUNITIES

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 20 (Bernama) -- The China International Import Expo (CIIE), the world's first national-level import-themed trade fair, has continued to provide a platform for sharing market opportunities in China with BRI nations.

Launched in 2018, CIIE comprises a business exhibition, a country exhibition and the Hongqiao International Economic Forum.

According to a statement, the fifth edition of the CIIE will be held in Shanghai from Nov 5 to 10 this year as scheduled.

As usual, a slew of companies will be attending the expo for the first time - they include global metals and mining giant Rio Tinto Group and Japanese multinational semiconductor company Renesas Electronics Corp.

The CIIE has become the preferred place for companies to announce new creations. During the past four editions, exhibitors have debuted more than 1,500 new products, technologies and services.

The CIIE has further opened up the huge Chinese market and made a profound difference in the world, especially in least developed countries, those in Central and Eastern Europe and those involved in the BRI.

In terms of the Business Exhibition, the fifth CIIE will again feature six exhibition areas namely Food and Agricultural Products, Intelligent Industry and Information Technology, Medical Equipment and Healthcare Products, Consumer Goods, Trade in Services, and Automobiles.

In addition, a series of sideline events such as promotional activities in foreign countries, signing ceremonies and forums, have made the CIIE more than just a six-day expo, but also a means to turn exhibitors into investors.

NTHU interdisciplinary research team unveils secret to success

Chou Yu-Ju (left) and Kuo Tsung-Han have found that social dominance is not so much determined by who is stronger, but rather by who is willing to yield. (Photo: National Tsing Hua University)

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 19 (Bernama) -- Cross-species research conducted by an interdisciplinary research team at National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) led by professors Yu-Ju Chou from the Department of Early Childhood Education and Tsung-Han Kuo from the Institute of Systems Neuroscience has found that the social hierarchies of children and mice are similarly formed at an early age.

Surprisingly, they discovered that these hierarchies are not so much determined by who is stronger, but rather by who is willing to yield, according to a statement.

Their research was published in iScience, a sub-journal of Cell. They suggest that parents and teachers should pay close attention to social interaction among children, and provide extra guidance and encouragement to timid or submissive children.

The experiment used to identify young mouse hierarchy is a “tube test”, in which one mouse is forced to retreat by an opponent into a narrow tube.

The team also conducted behavioural experiments on preschoolers and attained similar results. Chou said that the children who won the competition didn’t really need to exert too much effort.

The losers either readily gave up or were easily convinced to acquiesce by their opponents. While some children were able to dominate the game by commending others, submissive children were less persistent and more likely to retreat.

The study was sponsored by the Office of Research and Development. The merger of NTHU with National Hsinchu University of Education six years ago resulted in extensive cooperation, including this exemplary research.

In a follow-up project, Chou and Kuo teamed up with Dr Shi-Bing Yang from Academia Sinica and found a positive correlation between hierarchy and memory. The study showed that memory-improving drugs can enhance not only memory but also social dominance in mice.

It also suggested that children with a better memory are good at adopting social strategies and recognising dominant facial cues, which is conducive to leadership. This research has recently been published in the journal Communications Biology.

Madison Realty Capital announces providing US$85 million loan for luxury condominiums

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 19 (Bernama) -- Madison Realty Capital, a vertically integrated real estate private equity firm focused on debt and equity investment strategies, has announced providing a US$85 million loan to The Related Group (Related), BH Group, Teddy Sagi’s Globe Invest, and Wanxiang Group Corporation for the acquisition and pre-development of a 6.51-acre land parcel with approved plans for the development of a luxury condominium project on Fisher Island in Miami Beach, Florida. (US$1 = RM4.535)

The parcel is located at 6 Fisher Island Drive at the last remaining condo development site on the 216-acre private island, which is accessible only by ferry, boat, or helicopter and offers significant privacy for its 800 residents.

The condominiums will rise 10 stories and consist of 51 units across a mix of three- to five-bedroom residences, three villas and two penthouses with premium finishes and appliances. The property will include 450 feet of private oceanfront and valet parking for 169 spaces as well as 7 private two-car garages and 93 golf cart spaces.

Residents will have access to premier amenities as well as membership to the Fisher Island Club, which offers beaches, seaside golfing, tennis courts and restaurants.

In a statement, Josh Zegen, Managing Principal and Co-Founder of Madison Realty Capital, describing Fisher Island as one of the most exclusive residential locations in the country, said owing to the scarcity of land, limited supply of new residences, and significant development timeline, property values on Fisher Island have performed through market cycles.

“We are pleased to provide financing for the acquisition and predevelopment of such a rare development site and to complete our second transaction with Related and BH Group in such a short period of time.”

The loan is Madison Realty Capital’s second to Related and BH Group. In July, it provided the partners with a US$76 million loan for the development of District 225, a 343-unit luxury condominium in Downtown Miami.

Headquartered in New York City, Madison Realty Capital, as of Aug 31, 2022, manages approximately US$9.5 billion in total assets on behalf of a global institutional investor base.
