REVIVAL IN CORAL AND PEARL JEWELRY AMONG TOP TRENDS FOR 2019

BANGKOK, June 25 (Bernama) -- Pearls with a contemporary twist, playful coral, and innovative new materials and approaches to metals, are top global jewelry design trends for 2019-20 and will be on show at the 64th edition of the Bangkok Gems & Jewelry Fair, which runs from 10-14 September, 2019.

The September Bangkok fair will showcase the hottest trends at the Innovation and Design Zone (IDZ), presenting the most innovative and cutting-edge design products from Thai entrepreneurs.

This is a project of Thailand’s Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP), Ministry of Commerce to support talented designers and business people in the international market place.

“Emerging Thai designers, entrepreneurs and manufacturers, are aware of global trends in jewellery design, and each of the designers or entrepreneurs will adapt those trends to their pieces,” said Kornkamol Anekamai, director of the Thai Trade Center (TTC) in Milan.

“And for brands it’s important to know about the trends and to keep their brand identity. Thus for Thai products you can find pieces that vary in terms of trends and you can find very unique pieces.”

Leading European designers and industry leaders say the high quality of Thai jewelry craftsmanship reinforces their brands and strengthens their position in European markets.

“Our Thai manufacturers are our main supplier. They are very good at selecting the best quality stones and at working on intricate designs and re-cut stones,” says Paris-based designer Lydia Courteille, who has a boutique on the Rue Saint-Honore in central Paris, near the famous Place Vendome high jewellery quarter.

“They respect us in terms of what we ask for, and always try to do their best from an artistic point of view,” Lydia explained.

“Whenever we open the delivery parcel, we fall in love with what they (Thai craftspeople) have completed.”

Having established his eponymous luxury jewelry brand, celebrated Roman designer Alessio Boschi chose to settle in Bangkok, he said not only unparalleled access to talented jewelry artisans, but also for sourcing a wide variety of gemstones as his greatest passion.

Paola De Luca, a respected Italy-based jewellery analyst and forecaster, said: “Thailand's heritage for craftsmanship will appeal to European markets where there is strong demand for superbly made silver gold and color gem-set jewelry among the new wave of consumers."

The following global design trend themes are highlighted for 2019-20:

Pearls
Since the Sotheby’s sale of a pearl and diamond pendant owned by ill-fated French Queen Marie- Antoinette for a world record price for a pearl of $36 million last November, there has been a strong revival in consumers’ fascination for pearl jewelry.

Some pearl jewelry pieces in Bangkok show incorporated pearl with diamonds or precious stones featuring a blaze of colour.

The newest designs, seen at European trade shows early this year, present futuristic themes, combining pearls with diamond-encrusted stars and galaxies, and reinterpretations of the past, such as Art Deco tassels.

At the VicenzaOro and Baselworld fairs, brands showed off intricately crafted futuristic pieces inspired by stars and galaxies, and jewelry made from golden South Sea drop shaped pearls combined with unusual formations of diamonds, inspired by the stars.

Coral
PANTONE’s color of the year in 2019 is living coral, a nurturing color that appears in our natural surroundings, influencing a profusion of coral jewelry creations.

Playful and lighthearted coral jewelry featured prominently in the European trade shows in the first quarter of the year.

Precious coral from the great ocean depths is seen as sustainable in jewelry production, paving the way for exciting new creations to enter the global market this year.

Asia is a rich source of deep-sea coral and new creations are expected to be on show at the September edition of BGJF.

New materials

The latest generation of designers “mix and match” unusual materials, such as ebony and bakelite, synthetic rubber and nautical cord, with traditional precious metals and gemstones.

Some pieces combined an eclectic mix of innovative materials with precious stones, giving a fresh look to necklaces and bangles rich in color.

One necklace featured rings of African ebony amidst natural gemstones, while a bangle predominantly in jade incorporated a standout bakelite sphere.

At Bangkok show, INTHAI brand applies Thai bamboo handicrafts to create accessories jewelry and decoration, PIROON JEWELRY whose jewelry works inspired by Thai sculpture using paper pulp and artistic creativity to render the creative pieces.

METALS INNOVATION
At Vicenza, one high jewelry brand presented 18-carat gold in a range of colors, launching “chocolate brown” gold rings to complement colored gold such as “natural beige” and “apricot orange.”

The spread of gold colors is due to the use of different combinations of alloys.

A U.S. brand, well known for its lockets in 18-carat gold, ventured into steel jewellery, such as a black steel sun, moon and stars 47-inch chain.

Innovation and Design Zone

At the September Bangkok fair, the newest trends will be showcased at the Innovation and Design Zone (IDZ), which will be divided into two zones.

Zone 1 will feature a Special Exhibition: Innovation and Design Showcase, presenting more than 40 innovation and design products in six groups – Fine Jewelry, Form & Technique, Material, Research, Technology & Tools, and student projects from leading Thai universities.

Zone 2 will be an Innovation and Design Bazaar in which around 12 brands will showcase their innovative products.

The 64th Bangkok Gems & Jewelry Fair will be held from September 10 to 14 , 2 0 1 9 at Challenger Halls 1 -3 , IMPACT Muang Thong Thani. For more information, please visit www.bkkgems.com or dial DITP Call Center 1169.

Bangkok Gems & Jewelry Fair (BGJF) is one of the world’s most renowned and longest-celebrated gems and jewelry trade fair in the industry. Organized on a biannual basis by Thailand’s Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP), Ministry of Commerce, in February and September, the Bangkok Gems & Jewelry Fair is regarded as a significant trading arena where all key players in the global gems and jewelry business can achieve their purposes of sourcing, trading, networking.

THE 2ND GOJI BERRY INDUSTRY EXPO HELD IN ZHONGNING, CHINA -- ZHONGNING'S GOJI BERRY, WORLD'S SUPER FOOD

ZHONGNING, China, June 26, 2019 /Xinhua-AsiaNet/--

The 2nd Goji Berry Industry Expo is held in Zhongning, a county along the Yellow River, in northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region from 26th June to 28th June.

Zhongning, named as "the home of China's Goji berry", has a 600-year-history of Goji berry growing and is also the origin place of Goji berry worldwide. Goji berry, also known as wolfberry, is the "medicine food homology" in Chinese traditional medicine, which can improve liver and kidney function, promote body immunity, anti-aging, etc..

Chinese people like to eat them raw, in tea or soups. But in recent year, more and more overseas fans become to accept this kind of red berry and use it to make smoothies, salads and cakes. So Goji berry wins another name -- "super food" in western countries' market.

Now, Zhongning grows over 13,333 hectares of Goji berry and annual production of dried fruit reaches 50,000 tonnes. The region has established standard farming techniques to control the use of pesticides, improve the qualities of the berries and develop new products, so Goji berry from Zhongning are increasingly sought after overseas.

According to statistics, Goji products including dried berries, juice, oil and freeze-dried powder from Zhongning are exported to over 40 countries and regions including the United States, the European Union, Japan and Australia, accounting for 40% of the total volume of China.

POLYPLASTICS DEVELOPS NEW DURACON (R) POM GRADES FOR AUTOMOTIVE FUEL SYSTEM COMPONENTS

TOKYO, June 25, 2019 /Kyodo JBN- AsiaNet/ --

The Polyplastics Group has announced the development of several new DURACON (R) polyoxymethylene (POM) grades which deliver high flow, high rigidity, and design freedom for the production of injection-molded automotive fuel system components. The new materials complement Polyplastics' flagship DURACON (R) POM portfolio which is already widely used for automotive fuel system components due to its excellent fuel resistance.

(Images: https://kyodonewsprwire.jp/prwfile/release/M100475/201906197708/_prw_PI1fl_92j2k2Tf.jpg

The company has commercially launched DURACON (R) H140-54C, a high-flow/high-rigidity grade with a melt flow rate (MFR) of around 14. This material suits a wide range of molding conditions (cylinder conditions, injection pressure) and is used in Europe. The aim of going to a more rigid material is to allow products to be made thinner. Meanwhile, the higher flow suppresses increases in peak pressure that occur during injection molding due to thin walling. DURACON (R) H140-54C facilitates the production of small, thin-wall parts.

Polyplastics has also announced a developmental POM grade which provides exceptional acid resistance. Historically, one of POM's limitations has been its vulnerability to strong acids, but this new material provides significant improvements. The acid-resistant grade is targeted at a range of fuel system applications including ORVR valves, cut-off valves, and fuel pump module flange parts which are attached to the outside of fuel tanks. These parts can be damaged by the acidity in automotive cleaning liquids, acid rain, and other substances.

Polyplastics has also developed an electrically conductive grade for use in components that surround fuel as a measure against static electricity. Typically, when resin is imparted with conductivity, it often affects certain performance characteristics, resulting in less flowability and toughness. However, this grade successfully imparts conductivity while also maintaining POM's key performance attributes, including flowability and toughness.

TRILUMINA LAUNCHES THE WORLD'S FIRST SURFACE-MOUNT FLIP-CHIP BACK-EMITTING VCSEL ARRAY WITHOUT THE NEED FOR A SUBMOUNT

Game-changing “LED Killer” Device Enables Lowest Cost, Smallest, High Performance for Mobile 3D Sensing Applications and Innovative NIR Illumination Options

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., June 21 (Bernama-GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- TriLumina, the leading developer of flip-chip VCSEL(vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser) technology for 3D sensing, announces the launch of the world’s first surface-mount flip-chip back-emitting VCSEL array without the need for a submount or bond wires, which allows for lower costs and higher performance than existing designs using near-infrared light-emitting laser diodes or LEDs for 3D sensing.

“We are pleased to launch this revolutionary device,” said Luke Smithwick, chief marketing officer for TriLumina. “For the first time, engineers can create extremely small, low-cost, high-performance products utilizing a NIR surface mount back-emitting VCSEL array, without the need for a large and costly submount.”

Conventional VCSEL arrays are mounted on a submount and use bond wires for electrical connections.  TriLumina’s unique patented Flip-chip, back-emitting VCSEL technology has been flip-chip packaged and used in automotive long-range LiDAR prototypes, for low power mobile and in-cabin 3D sensing applications. The new 4 W Chip on Board (CoB) SMT (surface mount technology) VCSEL device is a compact, surface-mountable design, consisting of a single VCSEL array die, that is mountable on a printed circuit board (PCB) without the need for a submount carrier for the VCSEL die. This tiny, very low-cost illumination technology is an excellent solution for numerous 3D sensing applications, as well as providing innovative NIR illumination options for replacing existing LEDs in solutions such as NIR camera systems, mobile cameras, in-cabin occupant monitoring and AR/VR systems. TriLumina’s integrated back-side etched micro-lenses enable integrated optics, which further reduces part height as compared to conventional VCSELs with separate optical lenses and can result in lower battery drain with multi-zone operation. It has the smallest footprint with the lowest cost implementation in its class, making it ideal for use in mobile devices.

“TriLumina has led VCSEL illumination for 3D sensing with our innovative flip-chip back-emitting multi-chip illumination modules for long range LiDAR applications,” said Brian Wong, president and chief executive officer of TriLumina. “Now, we’ve innovated once again, by eliminating the need for a package for low-power mobile and automotive in-cabin applications.”

This new architecture from TriLumina has excellent thermal properties with a very compact form factor. The VCSEL device has integrated solder balls and mounts directly to a PCB using standard surface mount technology (SMT), with built-in hermeticity. The CoB SMT VCSEL array eliminates the need for wire bonds or other expensive packaging technology found on standard top-emitting VCSELs. Although the device is designed for efficient operation in indirect Time of Flight (ToF) applications, the lack of wire bonds also has inherently low parasitic inductance, making this emitter compatible with ultra-high-resolution, fast rise-time, short pulse-width direct ToF applications.

Contact TriLumina for a data sheet and additional technical and pricing information.
