Once economic backwater, Chongqing Liangjiang New Area transforms to opening-up hub
KUALA LUMPUR, June 25 (Bernama) -- Chongqing Liangjiang New Area has completed the transformation from an inland economic backwater to an opening-up hub after nine years of exploration, with more than 150 Fortune 500 enterprises having established their presence in the region.
The strategic emerging industries in the new area have grown by more than 20 per cent, digital economy by over 30 per cent and foreign trade by more than 15 per cent. The added-value of financial industry now accounts for more than 18 per cent of the local GDP.
Recently, Singapore's Freight Links Group, Figtree Group and Chongqing Pucheng Logistics Co Ltd jointly developed a smart logistics construction with one smart logistics park and three business segments.
Covering an area of 21.7 hectares with total investment of US$250 million, this project is one of the first under the China Singapore (Chongqing) Demonstration Initiative on Strategic Connectivity.
The smart logistics park consists of intelligent parking, registration, positioning and real-time transmission of traffic conditions, while the business segments include international multi-model transport, domestic transport and intra-city supply chain.
According to a statement from Chongqing Liangjiang New Area Administrative Committee, the construction of the smart logistics project well echoed the increasing economic and trade exchanges between Chongqing and Singapore.
