"Recovery and Reclamation of Fluorocarbons for Protection of Ozone Layer and Mitigation of Global Warming"
KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 4 (Bernama) -- The Seminar titled “Recovery and Reclamation of Fluorocarbons for Protection of Ozone Layer and Mitigation of Global Warming”, organized by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Department of the Environment (DOE), was held this Thursday on 29 Nov 2018. More than 100 participants from the government and refrigeration and air conditioning companies took part in the seminar.
JICA has implemented its project “The Verification Survey with the Private Sector for Disseminating Japanese Technologies for Creation of a Fluorocarbons Reclamation Industry that Contributes to Ozone Layer Protection” to support DOE for its effort to establish suitable regulatory and financial mechanisms.
Throughout the implementation of the pilot project, as much as 3.9 tons of fluorocarbons was recovered and 3.7 tons of fluorocarbons was reclaimed by Westech Chemicals, which is equivalent to a reduction of 6,200 CO2 equivalent tons of Green-house-gas emission.
Dato' Dr. Ahmad Kamarulnajuib Bin Che Ibrahim, Director General, DOE, gave a speech at the beginning of the seminar, stating “Now that DOE tries to formulate an environmental law to manage various environmental hazardous substances integrating all the related ozone depleting substances, we hope that the model for recovery and reclamation of the ODS proposed throughout this project will continue to be established and implemented after the enforcement of the law”.
Mr. Fukawa, Chief Represetantive of JICA Malaysia, said “The pilot project also presented a good opportunity for getting a hint from the model, proposed by and using sophisticated Japanese technologies of Taiyoshoji, for necessary regulatory and financial mechanism as well as a suitable business model for sustainable recovery, reclamation and destruction in Malaysia”.
Taiyoshoji has already established its local subsidiary company in Malaysia to continue its model of recovery and reclamation of fluorocarbons envisaging a business prospect in years to come.
