KUALA LUMPUR, June 17 -- Amid the evolving global challenges posed by COVID-19, immunisation professionals must now grapple with deploying routine immunisation services in a daunting and ever-shifting landscape.
Therefore, the Sabin Vaccine Institute (Sabin) has launched the Boost Community (Boost), a global network dedicated to serving immunisation professionals, supported by a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
For its first major training programme, Boost has joined forces with The Geneva Learning Foundation and Adaptive Change Advisors to develop and teach a six-week digital Scholar Level 1 certification course in adaptive leadership for immunisation.
According to a statement, the course trains participants to diagnose the system they are operating within; distinguish and define technical and adaptive problems; and lead consequential change within the immunisations systems they operate in today.
Boost will serve as a forum to generate knowledge, enable connection with peers and empower immunisation professionals by acknowledging the critical role they play in shaping human health globally.
In a recent survey of 800 immunisation professionals conducted by the World Health Organization, Sabin and other key partners, 64 per cent of respondents reported significant disruptions to immunisation in their country or community, with either zero or limited outreach activities taking place and fewer visits to vaccination posts.
Boost is open to all professionals and partners working in the immunisation field, especially those involved with managing or implementing immunisation programmes at the national and sub-national levels.
