KUALA LUMPUR, March 9 (Bernama) -- In support of International Women’s Day 2021, Zynga Inc, a global leader in interactive entertainment, has teamed up with Girls Who Code (GWC), aiming to raise awareness and support for women in tech.

According to a statement, Zynga has pledged US$100,000 from its Social Impact Fund to enable GWC to support girls at all points throughout their educational journey from third grade into the workforce. (US$1 = RM4.118)

GWC is an international non-profit organisation dedicated to closing the gender gap in technology.

“Zynga is honoured to team up with GWC to help forge a more inclusive industry in tech and games by expanding opportunities for girls and women across the globe,” said Zynga Chief Legal Officer, Phuong Phillips.

“Through their virtual workshops, school clubs, mentorship programmes, networking and more, we are hoping to build the next generation of women in STEAM to help them to prepare and thrive in the tech workforce.”

GWC incoming Chief Executive Officer, Dr Tarika Barrett expressed excitement and said the partnership sent a loud signal to young women everywhere that they belonged in technology and that they had support in their journey from school into the workforce.

“Zynga and GWC share a vision of a more fair and equitable workforce, where women of all backgrounds rise to the top,” said Dr Barrett.

Through its free Clubs programme, GWC reaches young women at the most critical point in the pipeline, equipping them to use Computer Science to impact their community and providing a sisterhood of supportive peers and mentors to help them persist and succeed.
