Mediu Programmes Accredited By MQA

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 21 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) has stressed that no revocation of accreditation of Al Madinah International University (Mediu) programmes has taken place as claimed by a local newspaper recently.

MQA, in a statement, said the Mediu programmes had undergone a detailed and comprehensive evaluation process involving evaluation by experts in the related fields appointed by MQA before the programmes were given MQA's accreditation.

"Generally, MQA has evaluated the level of quality of 169 Mediu programmes since 2010. As at October, 88 programmes had undergone the accreditation evaluation process and 81 more programmes had been given full accreditation.

"Of the total, 70 Mediu programmes have received MQA accreditation and registered in the Malaysia Qualifications Register," said the statement.

MQA said every application by Higher Education (PPT) Programme Provider evaluated by MQA would undergo a detailed and comprehensive quality assurance and accreditation programme process.

"MQA will not compromise in the aspect of quality evaluation and every programme must comply with the need of quality assurance based on the Malaysian Qualifications Framework," he said.

As such, MQA urged the public to conduct a check of the programmes offered by PPT via the Malaysian Qualification Register portal at www2.mqa.gov.my/mqr or to check via mobile applications at myMQR whether at Android (Google Play), iOS (Apple Store applications) or Windows (Windows application) to avoid any confusion.

NEC PROVIDES CYBER DEFENCE TRAINING FOR THAI GOVERNMENT AGENCIES

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 16 (Bernama) -- NEC Corporation (NEC) subsidiary, NEC Corporation (Thailand) has provided Thailand's Electronic Transactions Development Agency (ETDA) with hands-on cyber defence training for government agencies in that country.

NEC in a statement said the training was held in Bangkok, Thailand from Dec 6 to 9 for more than 50 government officials from the ETDA and other government agencies.

"NEC's hands-on cyber defence training aims to enhance the abilities of system administrators in government agencies to effectively handle the increasing threat of cyber-attacks.

"By providing simulations of a customer's ICT (Information Communication Technology) infrastructure, the practical training enables the cultivation of system administrators with comprehensive cyber defence capabilities," it added.

According to NEC, the ETDA, which is under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, is one of the agencies responsible for cyber security in Thailand.

P&G Releases First-Ever Citizenship Report

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 16 (Bernama) -- Procter & Gamble Co (P&G) today released its first-ever P&G Citizenship Report, detailing progress in reducing its environmental footprint and improving social conditions for those in need.

In a statement today, P&G's Chairman of the Board, President and Chief Executive Officer, David Taylor, said the highlights of the report included environmental responsibility, community impact, diversity and inclusion and gender equality.

Only 30 percent of respondents to the survey - conducted with consumers in the US, UK and Australia - claimed awareness of any security weakness in mobile phone networks.

SELANGOR, Dec 2 (Bernama) --  At the recent Lions for Diabetes Awareness Programme, which educates the public to “Say No to Diabetes”, doctors warned that by 2020, one in five Malaysians are at risk of diabetes.  They echoed a 2015 study reporting 3.3 million diabetes cases in Malaysia, causing 34,579 adult deaths. In conjunction with World Diabetes Day, the Lions for Diabetes Awareness from District 308B1, Region 3 & 4 organised the event to raise awareness on this potentially fatal condition.

 
“Most people think diabetes is not a serious condition, and can be managed through medication; but this is a dangerous misconception. If not managed properly, the condition will only worsen.
