RELIANCE JIO AND CISCO CONTINUE CO-INNOVATION FOR MULTI-ACCESS EDGE COMPUTING

A.M. Best Changes Credit Ratings Of CBL Insurance

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 26 (Bernama) -- A.M. Best has removed from under review with negative implications and changed the financial strength rating to a non-rating designation of E (under regulatory supervision) from B++ (good) and the long-term issuer credit rating (long-term ICR) to 'e' from 'bbb+' of CBL Insurance Ltd (CBL) New Zealand.

This followed regulatory action that placed the insurer in interim liquidation.

Concurrently, A.M. Best has removed from under review with negative implications and withdrawn the long-term ICR of 'bb+' of CBL Corp Ltd (CCL) New Zealand, based on the same regulatory action.

These rating actions follow the High Court of New Zealand's announcement on Feb 23, 2018, that placed CBL in interim liquidation, following a request from the Reserve Bank of New Zealand.

A.M. Best had been closely monitoring the activity surrounding CBL since taking an earlier rating action on Feb 6, 2018.

The ratings were downgraded following CCL's announcement that CBL's insurance reserves for its long claim-tail French construction insurance business needed to be strengthened, and due to the resulting capital strain and pending the completion of an intended capital raise within weeks.

In addition, the under review status had reflected the need to assess the adequacy of the strengthened reserves and the corrective actions taken by management to address the causes of the reserve shortfall.

NRI Secure, GE Digital To Expand ACC Programme Worldwide

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 15 (Bernama) -- NRI SecureTechnologies Ltd (NRI Secure) and GE Digital announced that NRI Secure is the Asia-Pacific region's first independent company recognised as an accredited certification authority for the Achilles Communications Certification (ACC) programme worldwide.

The designation permits NRI Secure to independently provide the full ACC service to their customers, from testing and evaluation to certificate issuance.

Through the ACC programme, the company will be evaluating the network robustness of the devices used in connected control systems and operational technology (OT) networks, allowing them to be more confidently used in the industrial Internet.

"We are pleased to have NRI Secure as a third-party certifier of Achilles. Today, many devices and machines, such as turbines, medical devices and control systems are connected to and interact on a connected OT network," said GE Digital senior cyber security director, Felicia Nicastro.

"If control of heavy machinery or physical devices is lost due to a cyber attack, the damage could be significant. These OT environments require OT-specific technology to fortify embedded and connected systems and reduce the risk associated with cyber-related threats," Nicastro said.

Achilles Certification helps ensure products and internal development processes align with industry best practices for testing and network robustness. NRI Secure has been providing a device security diagnosis service for embedded devices, since 2011.

In 2016, NRI Secure became Japan\'s first third party ACC testing lab in that country to support customers in getting certified, and NRI Secure is now a worldwide certification authority.

MIPS, Netspeed Partner For AI, ML SoCs Solutions

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 15 (Bernama) -- MIPS Technologies Inc has announced a strategic partnership with NetSpeed Systems Inc to deliver interoperable solutions that enable leading-edge performance in system on chips (SoCs) for Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) applications.

The companies will provide deeper integration of their products for designers to utilise the advanced performance features of the MIPS Warrior I-Class I6500 processors effectively with NetSpeed's Gemini network-on-chip intellectual property (IP).

AI capability is becoming ubiquitous in a growing number of applications including autonomous driving, voice-powered personal assistants like Siri and Alexa, facial recognition, predictive text and many more.

AI, and particularly ML, requires a different kind of processing platform than those commonly used for traditional software programmes.

With AI, the technology must analyse very large quantities of historical data to identify patterns, create behaviour models and, essentially programme itself, which requires a great deal of compute capability with very high performance and low latency for real-time applications.

"Today, all components of the SoC which typically include multiple instances of several different types of processors must work together in a highly orchestrated fashion.

The interconnect fabric is the common glue that can make or break performance, and when tightly integrated with versatile processors such as MIPS I6500-F, it provides the coherent fabric that lets designers mix the on-chip configurations of processing clusters to achieve leading-edge compute capabilities for AI," said chief executive officer of NetSpeed, Sundari Mitra.

MIPS chief financial officer, Krishna Raghavan expects the new AI solutions that MIPS and NetSpeed are working to have a far-reaching impact.

NTT SECURITY AND THREATQUOTIENT PARTNER TO DELIVER THREAT INTELLIGENCE SERVICES

Collaboration will deliver enhanced threat intelligence capabilities to worldwide managed security clients

TOKYO, Feb 15 (Bernama-GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- NTT Security, the specialized security company of NTT Group, has announced a partnership with ThreatQuotient to broaden its threat intelligence capabilities. ThreatQuotient’s threat intelligence platform (TIP), ThreatQ, will serve as the cornerstone of NTT Security’s new threat intelligence services offering.

The platform’s flexible architecture for aggregating and correlating threat data will enhance NTT Security capabilities for bringing detailed, relevant threat intelligence to NTT Group clients through managed security services around the world.

NTT Security and NTT Group’s operating companies Dimension Data, NTT Communications and NTT DATA, as well as their clients, provide a wealth of visibility into the methods of malicious actors on the internet. Analysts from NTT Security’s Global Threat Intelligence Centers (GTIC) will be using ThreatQ to process this data and turn it into actionable threat intelligence that can benefit its consulting and managed services clients.

ThreatQ will also fully integrate into NTT Security’s Global Managed Security Services Platform (GMSSP). This will enable NTT Security not only to collect data about attacks on client systems and disseminate the resulting threat intelligence to the Advanced Analytics Engine and expert SOC analysts, but also respond to and proactively stop these attacks in real-time. Many of NTT Group’s enterprise clients also have their own in-house threat intelligence capabilities generating data they are willing to share and collaborate with partners. By integrating internal client data with NTT Security’s intelligence within ThreatQ, NTT Security will have more context to better protect the managed systems.

NTT Security will also be using the ThreatQ platform to enhance its consulting services. Many standard security services, such as risk assessments, forensic and incident response engagements, penetration tests and red team engagements, will benefit from threat intelligence that can be applied to existing security processes in a way that allows the data to be used immediately. Additionally, NTT Security provides reputation threat services to help clients understand the threats they are facing. ThreatQ makes it possible to search for contextual threat intelligence that is relevant to each unique industry and organization, and prioritize that intelligence for improved security operations.

“NTT Security’s global managed security services and channel program is exactly the type of model that we strive to be part of as we work to reach more organizations that need deeper support to get a threat intelligence program off the ground, or get more value out of existing strategies,” said Matt McCormick, SVP Business and Corporate Development, ThreatQuotient. “ThreatQuotient is proud to partner with NTT Security to enable more clients to realize the benefits and potential of threat intelligence to accelerate security operations.”

ThreatQ uses the standard STIX/TAXII1 protocols for communicating threat data to other security devices, which will allow NTT Group’s clients to consume threat intelligence generated by the GTIC. This capability can be used to provide data to a client’s own in-house threat intelligence teams via its own TIP or send it directly to security infrastructure, including Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) platforms, ticketing systems, network security devices and endpoints.

Steven Bullitt, Global VP Threat Intelligence and Incident Response at NTT Security, commented: “Our partnership with ThreatQuotient is designed to help NTT Group clients proactively protect themselves based on the real-world threats they face every day. ThreatQ’s built-in integration with many of the leading threat intelligence sources as well as NTT’s own detecting and collecting threat intelligence will also enable us and these clients to get the data we need. Meanwhile, the flexible deployment options for ThreatQ will also help clients who want to build out their own capabilities.”

Having accurate and timely threat intelligence is increasingly important to protect enterprise organizations from sophisticated attackers, but effective threat intelligence is a matter of quality data over sheer quantity. NTT Security’s combination of ThreatQ as an industry-leading TIP, with the extensive experience of the human analysis in the GTIC and the machine learning capabilities of the Advanced Analytics Engine in GMSSP, provides a cutting-edge solution for getting the right information where it needs to be, at the right time.

A.M. BEST DOWNGRADES CREDIT RATINGS OF CBL CORPORATION LIMITED AND CBL INSURANCE LIMITED; PLACES UNDER REVIEW WITH NEGATIVE IMPLICATIONS

SINGAPORE, Feb 7 (Bernama-BUSINESS WIRE) -- A.M. Best has downgraded the Long-Term Issuer Credit Rating (Long-Term ICR) to “bb+” from “bbb-” of CBL Corporation Limited (CCL) (New Zealand). Concurrently, A.M. Best also has downgraded the Financial Strength Rating to B++ (Good) from A- (Excellent) and the Long-Term ICR to “bbb+” from “a-” of CBL Insurance Limited (CBL) (New Zealand). These Credit Ratings (ratings) have been placed under review with negative implications.

CCL is a listed company on the Australian Securities Exchange and the New Zealand Stock Exchange. The lead insurance subsidiary within this group is CBL, a non-life insurer that specializes in underwriting building- and construction-related credit and financial surety insurance, bonding and reinsurance.

The rating downgrades reflect the significant deterioration in CCL’s operating performance in fiscal year 2017, due primarily to a NZD 100 million reserve charge to strengthen reserves for CBL’s long-tail French construction insurance business. Management has proposed raising a substantial amount of capital, with details anticipated to be announced over the upcoming weeks, and this is expected to restore overall balance sheet strength to a level that supports the current ratings. In addition, A.M. Best will have further discussions with the company regarding its reserving practice, as well as the long-term profitability of CBL’s long-tail insurance products.

7-Eleven, NGOHub Asia Conduct Arts & Crafts Workshop For Children

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 7 (Bernama) -- In conjunction with International Creativity Month, 7-Eleven Malaysia and NGOHub Asia conducted an arts and crafts activity for the children of Pusat Jagaan Asnaf Barakh in Ampang, Selangor.

Led by 7-Eleven representatives, the children were taught how to construct a wind chime. Volunteers from NGOHub Asia also helped facilitate the activity by guiding the participants with their creations.

7-Eleven Malaysia general manager (Marketing), Ronan Lee expressed his delight to partake in the creative project, saying: ?We are happy to be spending time with the children here, and feel contented to see their brightened expressions from this activity.

"Through it, we hope that it would help develop their creative thinking skills, as constructing a wind chime is quite challenging though we kept in mind to add in a dash of fun as well.

"We strongly believe in uplifting the lives of those who need us, and knowing the difference we can make for the community here inspires us to continue our endeavours of being 'Always There For You'."

Pusat Jagaan Asnaf Barakh is a non-profit organisation that houses children from low-income families. Founder Yusof Noor has been actively supporting the underprivileged, and was inspired to help families who were struggling financially after learning about their circumstances.

Since 2010, the community has shifted to different locations as they were unable to sustain their tenancy with past landlords. Their current location in Ampang, Selangor, is the longest they have stayed and they seek aid for their rent and new furniture to replace the ones that are damaged.

"We also hope to receive support in the form of necessities such as Milo, diapers, milk powder, poultry and fish as these items are costly. Currently, we have 54 children with us, and we would like to provide them with the best that we can to ensure them a comfortable stay," Yusof said.

EDUCATION AND RETRAINING CRITICAL TO HELP WORKERS ADJUST TO FUTURE WAVES OF AUTOMATION

LONDON, Feb 6 (Bernama-GLOBE NEWSWIRE) --
  • PwC identifies three waves of automation between now and the mid-2030s and how it will impact jobs
  • Transport and manufacturing sectors have relatively high potential for job automation by the 2030s, health and education are less automatable
  • Education is a key factor driving risk of automation, with less well educated men at highest risk in the long run
  • But women could be at the higher risk over the next 5-10 years, for example in clerical roles
  • There should be broadly offsetting job gains provided increased investment is made in retraining

The impacts of three overlapping waves of automation to the 2030s are examined in a new report published today by PwC: the algorithm wave, the augmentation wave and the autonomy wave.

The research analysed the tasks and skills involved in the jobs of over 200,000 workers across 29 countries in order to assess the potential impact of automation on workers in different industry sectors and of different genders, ages and education levels.

On average across the 29 countries covered, the share of jobs at potential high risk of automation is estimated to be only around 3% by the early 2020s, but this rises to almost 20% by the late 2020s, and around 30% by the mid-2030s.

The study suggests that more women could initially be impacted by the rise of automation, whereas men are more likely to feel the effects in the third wave by the mid-2030s (see table below). This is due to the types of tasks that are more susceptible to automation and the current gender profiles of employment by sector.

The Algorithm wave is already well underway and involves automating structured data analysis and simple digital tasks, such as credit scoring. This wave of innovation could come to maturity by the early 2020s.
