“Malaysia is fortunate in that we handled the pandemic relatively well thanks to the coordinated action of our health authorities. Our economic fundamentals have also held up throughout the crisis, thanks to central bank oversight, public sector assistance, and the effort and determination of our private sector. But headwinds still assail us from external and internal sources, especially with the General Elections already upon us. It is thus timely that we have this Forum where business leaders and industry experts are gathered to discuss issues of common concern, such as inflation, economic trends, and the environment, as well as identify sectors that are growing in importance such as technology and logistics. The business community plays a huge role in strengthening, fortifying, and reviving the Malaysian economy, and this Forum is a platform for PLF to surface the concerns of business leaders to policy-makers,” said Tan Sri Azman Hashim, Chairman, Board of Trustees, Perdana Leadership Foundation.

Leading enterprises in Malaysia, Singapore pursuing new workplace strategies -- ISG report

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 28 (Bernama) -- Malaysian and Singaporean enterprises are adapting their workplaces to meet new employee expectations and advances in technology after the COVID-19 pandemic accelerated the adoption of remote work and virtual meetings, Information Services Group (ISG) said.

In a statement today, the global technology research and advisory firm said its 2022 ISG Provider Lens Future of Work -- Services and Solutions research report found that recent global events and new consumer technologies have led many employees in the region to expect the freedom to work remotely at least part of the time.

As a result, it said many enterprises continued to offer some form of work-from-home or hybrid work policy.

“As the circumstances of work in Singapore and Malaysia change over time, companies will need the flexibility to modify where and how employees do their jobs and collaborate.

“Service providers are helping clients focus on employee experience more than just on making technology easier to use,” ISG Asia director Deepraj Emmanuel said.

ISG said the rapid change in work modes in the region has affected some industries more than others but enterprises still preferred that employees do certain tasks, such as negotiating and brainstorming, in person.

“However, the pandemic allowed companies and employees to recognise that some roles can be carried out just as well, or better, remotely as they can in the office,” it said.

It said some enterprises are even shifting training and events online, reducing travel time and freeing up resources for creating better work-from-home environments.

ISG said the report also explored other workplace trends in the region and around the world, including the growing availability of workplace support from service providers in Singapore and Malaysia and the importance of strategically assessing all employee tasks to create an automation roadmap.

ISG has over 800 clients, including more than 75 of the world’s top 100 enterprises.

George Clinical recruits over 5,000 patients in first-ever Global Kidney Patient Trials Network

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 26 (Bernama) -- George Clinical, in close collaboration with The George Institute for Global Health, recently recruited over 5,000 patients in its first-ever, groundbreaking Global Kidney Patient Trials Network (GKPTN) to accelerate kidney disease treatments.

George Clinical is a global clinical research organisation founded in the Asia-Pacific.

The concept for the GKPTN is a logical extension of its scientific and clinical operations leadership in the kidney space.

“Our ultimate goal is to grow the GKPTN to a total of 10,000 patients by the end of 2027 and this will give us the bandwidth to support dozens of clinical trials in the kidney space.

“We are well on our way to achieving our goals as we seek to provide the infrastructure necessary to make recruitment timelines shorter and reduce the time to get needed treatments to patients,” said its chief medical officer Maria Ali in a statement today.

The GKPTN aims to accelerate the development of new treatments and provide equitable benefits for the millions of people globally who suffer from chronic kidney disease (CKD) and the many rarer kidney diseases associated with glomerular nephropathies.

In early 2020, the GKPTN enrolled its first patient with the purpose of developing a network of patients with CKD willing to participate in clinical research projects accessible via a single global chronic kidney disease platform.

The GKPTN now has more than 140 sites in nine countries globally recruiting patients, including Australia, China, Japan, USA, Canada, Argentina, Brazil, Spain, and Italy with the full intention of continuing to expand the number of countries in the coming years.

The development of the GKPTN was made possible through a generous grant from AstraZeneca and serves as a clear example of a true research partnership.

MORE FOREST COVERAGE MEANS ADDITIONAL INCOME FOR FARMERS

SHANGHAI, Oct. 25, 2022 /Xinhua-AsiaNet/--

More than 30 percent of the total area of Chongming is covered by forest. The 36,000 hectares of forests on the island district account for nearly one-third of Shanghai's total.

That high forest coverage plays an important role in air purification, water conservation and climate regulation. Agricultural products grown in forests can also reduce the adverse effects of wind, drought, diseases and pests.

The forest ecosystem comprises many animals, plants and other organisms, which has a high economic value if reasonably developed, giving rise to "forest economics".

The Shanghai Conghui Agricultural Products Professional Cooperative plants matsutake mushrooms in the forest in Xincun Town. The mushrooms are grown with local rice straw as the substrate and organic fertilizer is applied. Yang Ji, head of the cooperative has calculated that the output of the fungi planted in the forest is almost the same as that planted in the field, but it can greatly reduce costs and save land resources.

Chongming is also exploring planting Chinese herbs such as dendrobium and some shade-loving flowers and plants in forests.

Agricultural products

While it is widely believed that high forest coverage can help improve the quality of local agricultural products, few may know that tall fruit trees such as orange and pear trees are also forest resources. Chongming fruit forests have both ecological and economic value.

Gu Chao, head of Chongming Luhua Agricultural Trade Co, said that the sales price of locally produced Cuiguan pears has surged more than 30 percent this year, and the brand-name pear was sold out as early as before the end of July.

Gu believes that the popularity of Chongming pear lies in its superior quality. In addition to the ecological planting and natural maturity that Chongming always insists upon the island's environment is also suitable for the growth of pear trees.

"Pear trees grow well and have fewer pests and diseases," Luo Jun, a research fellow with the Forestry and Fruit Institute of the Shanghai Academy of Agricultural Sciences, pointed out.

Luo added that Cuiguan pear was selected as the main variety of pear to be grown in Chongming because it was found through research that the soil pH, groundwater level and climate conditions in Chongming were particularly suitable for its growth.

The forest coverage in Chongming has increased together with the money in Chongming people's pockets. This is a kind of wisdom.

IIJ LAUNCHES "IIJ SAFOUS SOARAAS," SECURITY OPERATIONAL SERVICE FOR OVERSEAS LOCATIONS

AsiaNet 98466

TOKYO, Oct. 26, 2022 /Kyodo JBN-AsiaNet/ --

- Achieving Global Security Control and Reducing Security Operation Workload -

Internet Initiative Japan Inc. (TSE Prime: 3774), one of Japan's leading Internet access and comprehensive network solutions providers, announced the launch of IIJ Safous SOARaaS, a monthly cloud service that streamlines and automates security operations at overseas locations. This service provides integrated security monitoring and operational management of the customer's environment by a dedicated team of analysts through the linkage of the customer's cloud, endpoint, firewall, and related security infrastructure with the service platform (SOAR platform(*)). In the event of a security incident, IIJ Group security analysts will examine security alerts as necessary and notify customers of the analysis results, scope of impact, and other information in English and Japanese. The service will provide Japanese companies with many offices in Asia and companies operating worldwide with global security control and reduce the operational burden of security. The SOARaaS Platform uses Cortex (TM) XSOAR, a SOAR platform from Palo Alto Networks, Inc.

(*) SOAR (Security Orchestration Automation and Response): Refers to technologies and solutions that streamline and automate operations related to security operations, including integrated control of various security products, incident response automation, and case management, analysis and reporting.

Background
Security incidents in corporate networks have dramatically increased in recent years. Supply chain attacks targeting branch offices overseas affect business continuity and even lead to shutdowns of factories or other major operational issues. Against this backdrop, many companies, both in Japan and abroad, now require their suppliers to implement advanced security measures as a condition of doing business with them. Additionally, IIJ has seen a global trend where cyber security laws are becoming stricter, requiring businesses of all sizes to implement stricter measures than before.

Overview of the service and its features
- Streamlining and automating operational tasks for security
The service is the first managed SOAR service in Japan to utilize Palo Alto Network's Cortex (TM) XSOAR, a tool for automating security operations. Palo Alto Network's next-generation firewalls, Prisma (R) Access (SASE platform), Cortex XDR (endpoint security), and IIJ's managed zero-trust network access service "Safous" support security log monitoring as default, with 24/7 automated monitoring of security incidents. The range of products compatible with monitoring will be added accordingly.

In the event of a security incident, security analysts examine the alerts as needed. Depending on the severity of the incident, analysts will quickly coordinate information with the customer via e-mail or telephone. Outsourcing customers' primary response to security incidents can greatly reduce their operational costs. Additionally, managed integrated operational services including installation and replacement of security products, operation of service infrastructure, fine-tuning, and version upgrades will enable customers to fully control the security of their overseas branches through IIJ's new service.

- Multilingual support
IIJ has established a Security Center in Indonesia, where the IIJ Group security analysts provide 24/7 customer support in English and Japanese. In cooperation with its local subsidiaries in Asia, IIJ plans to provide support in Chinese, Indonesian, Vietnamese, Thai, and other languages by FY2023.

- Multi-tenant model allows customers to "start off small"
The industry-leading SOAR system that automates security operations, including Incident & Response by high-level security personnel, is offered in a multi-tenant format, allowing companies to "start off small" with services starting from less than JPY200,000/month. For large-scale customers, IIJ can also provide dedicated SOAR.

Reference prices
- Example (1)
300 users, 1 product (monitored systems such as firewalls, endpoints, etc.)
From JPY170,000/month
- Example (2)
3,000 users, 2 products

5G SERVICE REVENUE TO REACH US$315 BLN GLOBALLY IN 2023 - JUNIPER RESEARCH

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 25 (Bernama) -- The operator‑billed 5G service revenue will reach US$315 billion in 2023; rising from US$195 billion (US$1 = RM4.739) in 2022, according to a new Juniper Research study.

According to a statement, this represents a growth of over 60 per cent in a single year.

The research predicts this increase in revenue will be driven by the accelerating migration of cellular subscriptions to 5G networks; owing to operator strategies that minimise or remove any premium over existing 4G subscription offerings.

It forecast that over 600 million new 5G subscriptions would be created next year despite the anticipated economic downturn in 2023.

In addition, the report predicts growth of 5G networks will continue and over 80 per cent of global operator‑billed revenue will be attributable to 5G connections by 2027.

As the telecommunications industry demonstrated its robustness against the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the report projects the growth of 5G will also be resilient against this economic downturn, owing to the vital importance of mobile Internet connectivity today.

“Despite the growth of the Internet of Things, revenue from consumer connections will continue to be the cornerstone of 5G operator revenue increase.

“Over 95 per cent of global 5G connections in 2027 will be connected to personal devices such as smartphones, tablets and mobile broadband routers,” said research co-author Olivia Williams.

Juniper Research provides research and analytical services to the global hi-tech communications sector, providing consultancy, analyst reports and industry commentary.

CHONGMING FORMULATES STRINGENT STANDARDS TO ENSURE SAFETY, SUSTAINABLE USE OF FARMLAND

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 25 (Bernama) -- Chongming has formulated stringent access standards for the inputs in agriculture to ensure the safety and sustainable use of farmland by establishing a green food chain mechanism and eliminating the circulation of unqualified agricultural material from the source.

It has also carried out agricultural pollution control, increased the adjustment of agricultural industrial structure, accelerated the resource utilisation of agricultural production waste, and implemented soil remediation in an orderly manner.

Chongming's soil contains much less cadmium, mercury, arsenic, lead, chromium, copper, nickel and zinc which is in line with the standard of the Ministry of Agriculture, with over 70 per cent of Chongming's farmland using high-quality or above average soil.

With less alkaline and sandy soil and rich in nutrients, the soil on Chongming Island provides fertile ground for the growth of rhizome plants such as yams, sweet potatoes and taros, according to a statement.

Chongming crispy taro has been cultivated for over 400 years and has already become a national well-known product.

Besides crispy taro, white lentil, golden melon and rice are all Chongming's characteristic agricultural products.

In recent years, Chongming has accelerated the development of seed sources, thus promoting the commercialisation, scale and industrialisation of these agricultural products.

For the highest quality produce, from restaurants to kitchen tables, green, organic, and fresh are the standard.

The “green” concept guarantees a certain quality of agricultural product, while flavour adds to the market value. In this regard, Chongming produce has a clear advantage as high-quality soil leads to high-quality crops.

RENSSELAER, N.Y., Oct 25 (Bernama-GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Taconic Biosciences, a global leader in providing drug discovery animal model solutions, has launched the FcResolv™ NOG portfolio, the first and only super immunodeficient mouse models lacking residual murine Fc gamma receptors (FcγRs) known to confound results in antibody-based therapy studies.

Murine FcγRs can cause false positives or false negatives, leading to incorrect conclusions and derail drug discovery. FcResolv NOG models knock out these receptors for greater clarity in antibody-based drug studies, affording investigators greater confidence and more translatable data with fewer studies and fewer animals. With applicability in oncology, immuno-oncology, and autoimmune disease, FcResolv NOG models are suitable for engrafting a wide range of human cells and tissues, including simultaneous human tumor engraftment and immune system humanization.

“Antibody-based therapies represent one of the fastest-growing classes of drugs, creating a pressing need for better preclinical tools to assess therapeutics such as monoclonal antibodies, antibody-drug conjugates, and bispecific antibodies,” said Dr. Michael Seiler, vice president of commercial products at Taconic. “Taconic’s FcResolv NOG portfolio enables researchers to evaluate drug candidates like these on their own merits, free of interference from residual murine Fc gamma receptor activity.”

FcResolv NOG models eliminate the false negatives that occur when an antibody-based therapeutic’s Fc domain interacts with murine FcγRs as well as the false positives that result when FcγRs trigger residual murine immune activity. They also eliminate costly deconvolution steps otherwise needed to distinguish true drug efficacy from off-target effects mediated through the mouse immune system. With more reliable answers, researchers can target their drug discovery investments more strategically and effectively.

The FcResolv NOG model portfolio is based on the super immunodeficient CIEA NOG mouse®. The portfolio currently includes two models:
  • FcResolv NOG, for tumor xenografts using cell lines or patient-derived tumors, engraftment of other normal or pathological human cells and tissues, and immune system humanization studies
  • FcResolv hIL-15 NOG, which supports engraftment of human NK cells and is suitable for efficacy studies on antibody-based therapeutics with an antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC) mechanism of action

CHONGMING'S AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTION GAINS AS WATER QUALITY IMPROVES

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 25 (Bernama) -- Chongming's agricultural production has gained tremendously through its water environment improvement project, initiated since 2017 as part of its industrial structure adjustment programme.

According to a statement today from Shanghai Chongming District People's Government, the programme was implemented to fulfil the requirements of its ecological island construction and the city's industrial structure adjustment.

“After over 10 years of effort, nearly 300 projects with outdated production capacity have been shut down or relocated, including industries such as textile, printing and dyeing, and paper making, which are likely to cause pollution to the water environment.

“Through the unremitting water environment improvement project, Chongming’s surface water quality compliance rate has reached 100 per cent and agricultural production continues to benefit,” it said.

Among others, mitten crab and rice are Chongming's signature agricultural products benefitting from its high water quality, it said.

Accordingly, Chongming rice, being free from use of chemical fertilisers and pesticides, has won a silver medal for its high quality in 2017 in Shanghai.

GUANGXI'S 'NIGHT ECONOMY' STIMULATES DOMESTIC DEMAND, BOOSTS PEOPLE'S LIVELIHOOD

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 25 (Bernama) -- The “night economy” in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region has played a significant role in stimulating domestic demand and serving to boost people’s livelihood there.

In recent years, the regional authorities released a series of policies to promote the night economy’s development, and all parts of the region have actively carried out activities such as night eating out, night viewing, night entertainment, and night shopping.

In a statement, the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Culture and Tourism Department said such night economic activities turn “traveller flow” into “traveller stay”, thereby effectively activating night consumption and boosting economic growth.

It said a number of national-level night culture and tourism consumption clusters, such as the “Three Streets and Two Alleys” in Nanning, the ASEAN Culture and Tourism Area in Nanning, and Yueye Dong Village in Liuzhou, have become the models for night economic development in Guangxi.

“In recent years, promoted by multiple favourable policies such as old city renovation and urban renewal, the once outdated ‘Three Streets and Two Alleys’, in downtown Nanning, have also taken a new lease of life,” it said.

In addition, as the night closes in, the street market in Nanning ASEAN Culture and Tourism Area is as bright as daytime, flowing with light and colour. It has gathered more than 2,000 night business entities and developed eight night-themed consumption activities.

To upgrade night consumption, Guangxi recently issued policies encouraging businesses to stay open late and focus on cultivating and building a number of night culture and tourism consumption clusters.

“Night economy has played an increasingly important role in releasing consumption vitality and promoting economic growth.

“We will continue to promote the innovation and development of the night economy; advance the integration of business, culture and tourism; vigorously develop new business formats and foster new scenes of night consumption; activate new hot spots of night consumption; and empower the upgrade of urban economy,” said Lai Fuqiang, deputy director of the region’s Department of Culture and Tourism.

JUNIPER RESEARCH: TRAVEL & EXPENSE MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE REVENUE TO SURPASS $16 BILLION GLOBALLY BY 2027, AS BUSINESSES SEEK TO PREVENT GROWING EXPENSE FRAUD

BASINGSTOKE, England, Oct 18 (Bernama-BUSINESS WIRE) -- A new study from Juniper Research has found the total revenue generated by T&E (Travel & Expense) management software will reach $16 billion globally by 2027; up from $8.7 billion in 2022. It predicts the risk of expense fraud will increase as hybrid working grows, with remote working offering the ideal environment for employees to submit fraudulent reports.

Expense Fraud Will Drive Growth

The research anticipates growing risks of employee expense fraud will drive demand for T&E management solutions. Manual T&E management practices are unable to detect expense fraud and incapable of identifying all cases of fraudulent activity due to the volume of expense reports submitted.

In contrast, dedicated T&E management solutions are capable of detecting and resolving numerous varieties of expense fraud, such as duplicate claims, by leveraging AI (Artificial Intelligence) to detect new methods of fraud; saving businesses time and money. Given these benefits are often overlooked, Juniper Research recommends vendors in the market prioritise development of AI-based anti-expense fraud capabilities and demonstrate these benefits when marketing their solutions.

Remote Working Encourages Adoption

Additionally, following the COVID-19 pandemic, remote working has become increasingly commonplace. The report found this has led to a rise in expense fraud, as less supervision and outdated manual T&E management processes enable employees to more readily submit fraudulent expense reports.

Research author Jordan Rookes explained: “Manual T&E management practices become inefficient and encourage expense fraud in remote working environments. With manual processes unfit for purpose, businesses will look to automated solutions to digitise the T&E management process; improving efficiency, and discouraging the submission of fraudulent expense reports, whilst improving fraud detection rates.”

QUANTEXA RECOGNISED AS CATEGORY LEADER IN CHARTIS KYC SOLUTIONS REPORT

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 20 (Bernama) -- Quantexa, a global data and analytics software company, has been recognised as a category leader in the just released 2022 Chartis KYC Solutions Market Update and Vendor Landscape Report.

Chartis is a research and advisory firm that provides technology and business advice to the global risk management industry.

According to a statement, Quantexa is recognised as a category leader for the completeness of its enterprise solution as well as for its market potential.

The Quantexa KYC Solution was rated “best in class” for the Know Your Customer (KYC) risk scoring and customer profile enrichment with additional data and received an advanced ranking for customer onboarding and reporting, and dashboarding.

“Quantexa is thrilled to be included in the Chartis KYC Market Quadrant Report, positioned very strongly amongst an esteemed list of enterprise solution providers,” said Quantexa chief product officer Dan Higgins.

The Chartis KYC report is focused on the macro themes of cost savings and efficiency. Currently, KYC processes can be manual, and error-prone and result in a poor experience throughout the customer lifecycle.

Quantexa’s Decision Intelligence Platform transforms the approach to KYC by adding context and clarity from onboarding to exit, dynamically monitoring and assessing customer risk and opportunity, and shifting away from manual periodic reviews to an automated, proactive process.

The platform connects internal and external data to create a single, enriched, holistic view of a customer and its control and uncovers hidden connections between customers, counterparties and their behaviours which are often impossible to see in isolation.

Quantexa’s positioning in the report is reflective of its customers’ proven results and is proof that adopting a contextual and perpetual approach to KYC reduces the time and costs involved for businesses.

JUNIPER RESEARCH: SECURITY INFORMATION & EVENT MANAGEMENT SPEND TO EXCEED $6.4 BILLION BY 2027 GLOBALLY, AS IBM, RAPID7 & SPLUNK LEAD THE MARKET

BASINGSTOKE, England, Oct 17 (Bernama-BUSINESS WIRE) -- A new study from Juniper Research has found that the total business spend on SIEM (Security Identity & Event Management) will exceed $6.4 billion globally by 2027, from just over $4.4 billion in 2022. It predicts that this growth of 45% will be driven by the transition from term licence (where businesses can use SIEM for specific licence lengths) to more flexible SaaS (Software-as-a-Service) models (where SIEM solutions are purchased via monthly subscription). This will enable small businesses to access previously unaffordable services.

A SIEM system is a combination of SIM (Security Information Management) & SEM (Security Event Management), which results in real-time automated analysis of security alerts generated by applications and network hardware; leading to improved corporate cybersecurity.

BREAKTHROUGHS IN QUANTUM COMPUTING TO ENABLE HUMANS CURE DISEASES EASILY

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 17 (Bernama) -- Breakthroughs in quantum computing will enable humans to cure diseases like cancer, Alzheimer’s, and Parkinson’s as easily as we treat the common cold.

It was one of the major insights to emerge from the Dubai Future Forum, held at the Museum of the Future, with renowned theoretical physicist Dr Michio Kaku telling the world’s largest gathering of futurists that humanity should brace itself for “major transformations” in healthcare.

Sharing his predictions for the future, Dr Kaku also said there is “a very good chance” humans will pick up a signal from another intelligent life form this century.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Al Gergawi, UAE Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Vice Chairman, Board of Trustees and Managing Director of the Dubai Future Foundation, said ministers around the world should think of themselves as “designers of the future”.

“Our stakeholders are 7.98 billion people around the world,” he noted, according to a statement.

More than 30 sessions were held with covered topics including immortality, climate change, terraforming, genome sequencing, legislation, and the energy transition.

The forum concluded with a call for governments to institutionalise foresight and engrain it within decision making.
