SeeUnity's Echo product enhancement supports events-driven synchronisation via webhooks

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 29 -- SeeUnity - An Anaqua Company, the leading provider of Application Programming Interface (API)-based content integration and migration solutions for on-premise and cloud-based Enterprise Content Management applications, has announced the release of a significant Echo Content Synchronization (Echo) product enhancement supporting events-driven synchronisation via webhooks.

This capability is less resource intensive and expedites the notification of content and metadata changes from cloud-based systems to another application, delivering real-time data updates to users.

Echo, a robust content synchronisation engine enabling organisations to securely connect and sync data between a document management system and other external applications via API, can sync content and content changes in one direction or bi-directionally on an ongoing and scheduled basis, allowing users to collaborate and access up-to-date content anywhere.

Using webhooks provides an alternative method for syncing data between applications. Webhooks deliver data over the web as changes (events) happen, versus relying on numerous API call requests for changes.

API rate limits are often found with cloud-based systems, causing delays and bottlenecks. For customers that require frequent, numerous, and timely data updates, this means they’ll receive the information much faster and more efficiently utilising webhooks.

“A full Echo API scan is still run periodically to catch events that may have been missed for normally occurring situations, such as internet glitches, downed systems, or database errors,” said SeeUnity CTO, Dan Hunsinger.

“The combination of webhooks, with the full scan safety net, creates a solid, efficient, and reliable integration,” he said in a statement.

XINHUA-SPG PORT COMMODITY INDEX RELEASED IN QINGDAO

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 28 (Bernama) -- At the 2021 Land-sea Linkage Qingdao Summit held recently, Xinhua-SPG Port Commodity Index (XH-SPG PCI) was officially released in Qingdao.

XH-SPG PCI was developed and established by Shandong Port Group Co Ltd in collaboration with China Economic Information Service based on the advantageous varieties of Shandong Port.

At present, the officially released XH-SPG PCI covers crude oil price index, iron ore inventory and entry and exit index, coke inventory and entry and exit index, steel billet price index and hot-rolled coil price index.

It has been established to truly reflect the fluctuation trend of bulk commodity market of the Port and provide value benchmark and effective reference for port trade activities, according to a statement.

Specifically, the estimated CIF price of crude oil can be used by enterprises to predict the premiums and discounts of crude oil trade in two months, and the spot crude oil price index can reflect the crude oil CIF price at the current time node.

The operation results of the index show that since the base period (Feb 3, 2020), the overall index has seen a ‘V’ trend, with a fall followed by a rise.

At the beginning, the global crude oil consumption demand was greatly reduced due to the outbreak of COVID-19.

After that, with the resumption of work and production in China and the easing of release of OPEC + crude oil production capacity, the global crude oil supply and demand remained in a tight balance, and the index showed a volatile rising trend.

In addition, for the iron ore inventory index, entry and exit index of iron ore, coke inventory index and entry and exit index of coke, Jan 1, 2021 is taken as the base period.

The compliant actual inventory data and entry and exit volume data of iron ore and coke in Shandong Port were collected respectively to reflect the overall change trend of iron ore and coke inventory in Shandong Port and the circulation activity of the Port.

According to the plan, the varieties involved in the index will be gradually enriched in the future, and the index will also be extended to cover other coastal ports, so as to continue to build an index information platform of ‘seeing Shandong for port bulk commodities’.

SPHERA: COMPANIES LACK WELL-DEFINED ROADMAP FOR SAFETY IMPROVEMENT MEASURES IMPLEMENTATION

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 29 (Bernama) -- While most companies have embraced safety as part of their corporate culture, there are still hurdles to overcome to improve their process safety and personal safety performance, Sphera’s new Safety Report reveals.

Sphera®, a leading global provider of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) performance and risk management software, data and consulting services, surveyed nearly 350 risk, process safety and health and safety professionals.

“An effective safety culture and efficient safety process helps ensure a healthy workforce and enhanced business performance. However, we are still seeing a gap in how companies link safety and business performance, which highlights a need for a more holistic approach through data, software and expertise,” said Sphera Chief Executive Officer and President Paul Marushka.

Results show that while 75 per cent of the respondents said safety was part of their organisation’s corporate culture, only 40 per cent said they had a well-defined safety performance roadmap in place, based on a statement.

According to Sphera’s Safety Report, creating a safety culture is just as important as being compliant, which has impacted the prioritisation of performance safety drivers.

Respondents indicated the top three key safety performance drivers are reducing operational and major accident hazard (MAH) risk exposure (60 per cent), regulatory compliance (48 per cent), and corporate and board priority (37 per cent).

Employer awareness of the safety hazards facing their workforce has been heightened during the pandemic. Over a quarter (27 per cent) of respondents indicated that the adoption of centralised Health and Safety processes was lagging.

For five years, Sphera produced the highly anticipated Process Safety Management/Operational Risk Management (PSM/ORM) report exploring industry trends in process safety and operational risk management.

However, with the 2021 report Sphera has expanded the overall safety landscape to include health and safety as well. While the occupational safety and health sector has especially felt pressure, companies across all sectors have had to make constant structural adjustments to keep workers safe.

VIETNAM WORLD'S FIRST ROUTINELY DIAGNOSING TUBERCULOSIS WITH SOS STOOL METHOD

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 29 (Bernama) -- Vietnam is the first country in the world to routinely use an innovative method to diagnose tuberculosis (TB) using stool.

The Simple One-Step Stool Method, developed by KNCV Tuberculosis Foundation, is implemented in 10 healthcare facilities across the country, according to a statement.

“This simple and painless test is an important development for diagnosing TB in children under the age of five and people living with HIV. This can save many lives and reduce suffering,” said Director of the National Lung Hospital and Head of the Vietnam National Tuberculosis Control Program (NTP), Prof Dr Nguyen Viet Nhung.

To raise the number of children being diagnosed and treated on time, the NTP decided to start an implementation pilot – financed by the Global Fund - with the KNCV Simple One-Step (SOS) Stool Method.

This turned out to be very successful and made the NTP decide to continue working with the SOS Stool Method routinely.

Worldwide, sputum from the lungs is currently mainly used as a sample to diagnose TB. However, it can be very difficult for many people living with HIV and children to cough up sputum.

“These invasive methods are often traumatising for the children, parents and healthcare workers. Materials for these procedures are not available everywhere and sometimes it is only done when the child is already very ill.

“This results in many children worldwide not being diagnosed or being diagnosed too late,” said executive director of KNCV Tuberculosis Foundation (KNCV), Mustapha Gidado.

A stool sample is painless and easy to obtain from children. KNCV laboratory experts dove into the matter and developed the SOS Stool Method, that was first presented during the Union World Conference in 2018.

KNCV Tuberculosis Foundation provides online training courses for laboratory staff, so that all countries can start using this method for diagnosing TB in children and people living with HIV. Vietnam sets an example of how this can be done successfully on all levels.

GMAC unveils first-ever global study of graduate management education diversity

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 27 -- The Graduate Management Admission Council™ (GMAC™) has released a special report, ‘The Global Diversity of Talent – Attainment and Representation’, a first reference guide of its kind to better understand representation for graduate management education (GME) degree attainment worldwide.

Understanding that education systems globally experienced disruption due to the pandemic, GMAC turned to its leading research capability as universities sought to adapt with a renewed attention to issues of student access and equity, as well as diversity and representation in tertiary educational attainment.

The report provides a global overview, seven regional outlooks, and separate reports for 69 locations or countries with an estimated 25,000 or more people in the student-aged population of 20 to 34 who have attained a master’s degree in the subject of business, administration, or law.

In addition to a separate appendix that reviews data on 111 other countries, it also examines the representation of women globally and under-represented groups in the United States, according to a statement.

Key findings include women struggling for representation at graduate business level, falling behind the most in Europe; African American graduates outpacing their white counterparts, driven by their over-representation in U.S. for-profit programmes; and, most business degree holders coming from Asia while Latin America enjoys highest business concentration among graduate degrees.

Globally, more women than men choose their undergraduate study in the fields of business, administration, and law.

The proportions of graduate management degree-holders relative to the student-aged population, or the GME participation rate, differs among the seven U.S. race/ethnicity groups studied in the report.

By region, the highest business concentration among all master’s degree-holders is seen in Latin America (33.1 per cent), the Middle East (27.6 per cent), and East Asia and the Pacific (26.6 per cent).

Crocus Technology broadens high precision isolated current sensors portfolio

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 26 -- Crocus Technology Inc, the leading supplier of disruptive Tunnel Magneto-Resistance XtremeSense® sensors, has announced the CT425, CT426, CT427 and CT428 isolated current sensors with less than one per cent total error over the full operating temperature range without sacrificing accuracy or bandwidth.

According to a statement, the high-speed operation and accurate output allow customers to optimise system design for smaller size and higher efficiency.

“The expansion of this product family brings more options to our customers to experience the high precision performance of our XtremeSense TMR products in more demanding applications,” said President and Chief Executive Officer of Crocus Technology, Zack Deiri.

The CT42x with less than 300 ns response time greatly simplifies the solution in EV Charging applications which are utilising GaN (Gallium Nitride) or SiC (Silicon Carbide) transistors to improve power density.

Likewise, the CT42x offers improvements in terms of performance and size compared to the classic isolated current sense solutions which utilise a shunt resistor, amplifier, and digital isolator to sense the voltage and convert this signal into a current measurement.

The CT42x directly senses the flow of current through the package avoiding errors in conversion and provides inherently faster and more accurate measurements.

With industry leading response time of 300 ns, high power architectures like the CCM Totem-Pole PFC can provide higher power density solutions.

Crocus’ proprietary TMR technology inherently offers a very high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) which allows for high resolution measurements required for precision control or monitoring applications.

Prof. Kitamori Takehiko has developed an innovative microfluidic system which allows the mixing and extracting operations conventionally carried out with large-scale equipment to be performed using a glass chip the size of a business card. (Photo: National Tsing Hua University)

HSINCHU, Taiwan, Oct 28 (Bernama-BUSINESS WIRE) -- National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) and the well-known Japanese chemical company DAICEL announce a five-year joint project to integrate an innovative microfluidic system developed by scholar Kitamori Takehiko into the chemical manufacturing industry today. Total investment in the project is 450 million Japanese yen (approximately NT$110 million), and its potential to reduce energy consumption while lowering the production of carbon and waste is expected to set a new standard for sustainability in the chemical industry.

This press release features multimedia. View the full release here: https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20211028005388/en/

Prof. Kitamori, a world-renowned pioneer in microfluidic and nanofluidic technology and the former vice president of the University of Tokyo, has been serving as the Yushan Honorary Chair Professor of the Institute of Nanoengineering and Microsystems, Department of Power Mechanical Engineering at NTHU since 2020. Building on his previous research conducted at the University of Tokyo, he has developed an innovative microfluidic system which allows the mixing and extracting operations conventionally carried out with large-scale equipment to be performed using a glass chip the size of a business card and capable of combining thousands of microfluidic chips simultaneously, making it possible to create a “desktop chemical plant.”

Kitamori explained that it can be quite difficult to instantaneously mix several large barrels of chemicals with different temperatures and reaction speeds, and there may even be an explosion if the materials are not handled carefully. Thus the preferred way of blending chemicals is by passing it through a microchannel, which makes it possible to precisely control the amount of raw materials used, as well as the mixing sequence and conditions, thereby optimizing the quality of the final product.

Kitamori said that the aim of the project is to reduce the size of chemical production equipment, so that what is currently produced by a factory measuring 20 x 20 meters can be miniaturized into a system only two square meters in size. What’s more, such a system would use less energy and materials, making it less expensive, and would also produce less carbon.

Years ago, when DAICEL president Ogawa Yoshimi heard about the microfluidic technology developed by Kitamori, he was deeply impressed, and is now highly pleased that DAICEL is going to integrate this innovative technology into its operations. He is also looking forward to cooperating with NTHU in introducing this epoch-making manufacturing process to the world, which he also sees as a way of promoting sustainability and the circular economy.

Dr. Fan-gang Tseng, Vice President and Director of Research and Development, NTHU, said that he is very optimistic about the future development of the microfluidic chemical plant. He pointed out that the adoption of this microfluidic process by DAICEL—one of the largest chemical companies in Japan—and by Taiwan’s many small and medium-sized chemical factories would constitute a revolutionary leap forward, and could lead to similar processes being applied by the semiconductor and biomedical industry.

COME 2026, SMART HOSPITALS MARKET WORTH US$59 BILLION - JUNIPER RESEARCH

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 26 (Bernama) -- A new study by Juniper Research finds the smart hospitals market will be worth US$59 billion by 2026, up from US$29 billion in 2021; representing an average annual growth of 15 per cent. (US$1 = RM4.150)

The concept of the smart hospital includes healthcare providers leveraging advanced analytics, connected devices, and healthcare platforms to improve care, productivity, and operational efficiency.

The new report Smart Hospitals: Technologies, Global Adoption & Market Forecasts 2021-2026, identified the US and China as leading smart hospital adopters; accounting for US$17 billion of market value in 2021.

According to a statement, it highlighted digital healthcare initiatives implemented in light of the COVID-19 pandemic and high levels of existing digitalisation within healthcare infrastructure as key to these countries’ positions as leaders.

The research forecasts that the US and China will grow to account for over 60 per cent of global smart hospital spending by 2026, predicting these countries’ pre-existing smart hospital services, allied with the formulation of favourable reimbursement structures, will provide an ideal basis for further smart hospital roll-outs.

However, it cautioned that the need for pre-existing digital infrastructure, such as electronic health records, would limit smart hospital roll-outs to developed regions. As a result, it anticipates that Latin America, Africa, and the Middle East will represent less than five per cent of global smart hospital spending by 2026.

Juniper Research’s report outlined how a current lack of interoperability between devices and platforms resulted in a high degree of fragmentation that required regulatory intervention on a country-level basis.

Juniper Research provides research and analytical services to the global hi-tech communications sector; providing consultancy, analyst reports and industry commentary.

ASIA PACIFIC BUSINESSES IDENTIFY ZERO TRUST TO ADDRESS CYBER ATTACK, FLEXIBLE WORKFORCE SPIKE

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 20 (Bernama) -- Cloudflare Inc, the security, performance, and reliability company helping to build a better Internet, has released new findings on security practices across Asia Pacific, revealing how organisations are coping with increased cyberattacks and flexible workforces.

The survey solidified that across the region attacks are up, and organisations are looking for new ways to secure their workforce—turning to Zero Trust security models, according to a statement.

According to the study, which was conducted across 1,000 IT and cybersecurity decision-makers and influencers across Australia, India, Japan, Malaysia, and Singapore, more than half (54 per cent) of organisations in Asia Pacific have experienced more security incidents in 2021 than in the previous year.

In addition, with attacks on the rise, 83 per cent of respondents said they had to make changes to their IT security procedures.

The study also found that the pandemic left organisations unprepared to cope with the challenges of remote working and added security risks.

The study further reveals that a majority—86 per cent of organisations—are aware of Zero Trust, and 66 per cent of respondents indicated they have implemented a Zero Trust strategy.

However, businesses face a number of challenges when it comes to incorporating Zero Trust in their IT security strategy, with 67 per cent of respondents stating that the biggest risk to their ability to execute is the lack of internal IT security experts.

Today’s new landscape requires a Zero Trust approach, where organisations do not automatically trust any requests to corporate data or resources, and instead, verify every attempt to connect to corporate systems before allowing them access.

In October 2020, Cloudflare launched Cloudflare One, a Zero Trust, network-as-a-service (NaaS) solution for enterprises that securely connects remote users, offices, and data centres to each other and the resources they need.

BHAM PRESENTS 'LOVE YOUR BONES' VIRTUAL CAMPAIGN TO BOOST BONE HEALTH AMONG MALAYSIANS

In conjunction with World Osteoporosis Day on 20 October, BHAM goes digital in promoting bone health knowledge among Malaysians, and shares the latest findings from its osteoporosis awareness survey

• 77% of the respondents have the misconception that weak bones and loss of height is part of a natural ageing process¹.

• Majority of the respondents (96%) are unaware of all the factors that can increase their risk of osteoporosis such as family history, post-menopausal status, low body weight, diet low in calcium, and heavy consumption of caffeine, alcohol, and/or cigarettes1.

• More than half of the respondents (57%) underestimated the impact of osteoporosis among women1, and are not aware that at least 1 in 3 women over the age of 50 will experience osteoporotic fractures at some time in their lives².

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 18 (Bernama) -- Bone Health Alliance Malaysia (BHAM) unveiled today the results of a bone health and osteoporosis survey assessing the awareness, knowledge, and lifestyle habits among Malaysians. The survey aims to raise awareness about bone health; counter the misconception that osteoporosis is part of a natural ageing process which is untreatable and unpreventable; as well as educate Malaysians on keeping their bones healthy.

Based on the survey findings, BHAM is also embarking on the ‘Love Your Bones’ virtual campaign to raise public interest in osteoporosis and increase its recognition as a health priority. The virtual campaign launched in conjunction with World Osteoporosis Day (WOD) on 20 October aims to address the gaps and misconception of bone health knowledge among the high-risk group and their caregivers, while highlighting the importance of a proactive healthy lifestyle to prevent osteoporosis.

The Bone Health Alliance Malaysia (BHAM) is a collaborative partnership between Osteoporosis Awareness Society of Kuala Lumpur and Selangor (OASKLS), Fragility Fracture Network Malaysia (FFNM), and Malaysian Osteoporosis Society (MOS), with Amgen Malaysia as a supporting corporate partner.

Examining Bone Health Awareness
BHAM conducted a survey between September 2020 until July 2021 to evaluate Malaysians’ awareness and knowledge about bone health and osteoporosis, perceptions about the disease, lifestyle habits and behavioural patterns. The survey conducted via offline and online included 807 male and female respondents from a diverse age group of 21-80 years old. 60% of the respondents were above 50 years old.

The survey findings revealed that a staggering 96% of respondents who were unaware of all the factors that can increase their risk of osteoporosissuch as family history, post-menopausal status, low body weight, diet low in calcium, and heavy consumption of caffeine, alcohol, and/or cigarettes³.

“Osteoporosis is a silent disease with no symptoms and often goes unnoticed until patients experience a fracture. While you cannot feel your bones get weaker, understanding your risk of developing osteoporosis will help you make informed choices such as initiating regular bone health assessments for those above 60 years old, especially women, for optimal bone health management. We urge those who have loved ones with risk factors for osteoporosis to consider monitoring of their relatives’ bone health by providing guidance and facilitating their bone health assessments,” said Prof Dr Chan Siew Pheng, President of Malaysian Osteoporosis Society & Consultant Endocrinologist.

In fact, based on the survey results, 82% of the respondents were unaware that they should start bone health assessments from 60 years old, and 77% respondents have the misconception that poor bone health (fragility fractures and loss of height) is part of a natural ageing process1. This validates the lack of knowledge among Malaysians that osteoporosis can be prevented through proactive lifestyle habits and there are available treatment options to improve outcomes.

Bone Health in Malaysia
“We carried out this survey to identify the awareness gaps on bone health and osteoporosis among Malaysians. Historically, there is limited data related to osteoporosis in Malaysia, and our survey findings not only contribute towards building the local database of information but has given clarity to guide our awareness efforts tailored to our Malaysian community’s needs,” added Prof Chan.

Worldwide, the incidence of osteoporotic fractures is on an increasing trend2. In the local context, it is projected that there would be 3.3 million Malaysians 60 years old and above affected by osteoporosis in 2050⁴. Notably, the survey also discovered that more than half (57%) of the respondents underestimated how common osteoporosis is among women1.

“Osteoporosis affects men and women, but women are at increased risk due to lower level of hormones in menopausal stage, with at least 1 in 3 women over the age of 50 who will experience osteoporotic fractures at some time in their lives2. It is important to educate the public on the role of lifestyle modifications through proper nutritional intake and staying active to ensure good bone health, especially among women and older persons,” said Dato’ Dr Lee Joon Kiong, President of Fragility Fracture Network Malaysia & Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon.

“Consume a balanced diet, which is not just rich in calcium but also protein, key nutrients for bone health. Vitamin D is another very important nutrient in bone health, which is predominantly obtained from sunlight and in limited amounts from food. Due to the major lifestyle shift experienced due to COVID-19 restricting access to outdoor activities, ensure that you get at least 10-20 minutes of daily exposure to sunlight, an essential source of Vitamin D to strengthen bone health⁵,” emphasised Dato’ Lee.

Harnessing Digital Reach to Bridge the Awareness Gap
Incorporating the survey insights that digital platforms are Malaysians’ go-to source for health information1, BHAM will be launching a series of digital activities to educate Malaysians about bone health knowledge and spur action. Championing the WOD theme of ‘Love Your Bones’ by International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF), the virtual campaign serves to educate patients, caregivers, and the high-risk group on how they can take care of their bone health at all stages of life and address common misconceptions about bone health.

“We hope to rally Malaysians together and promote bone health awareness while creating positive behavioural change in bone health management, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Shaping healthy lifestyle habits is crucial to ensuring good bone health and preventing fragility fractures. For example, the fear of falling becomes more common as people age. Prevent falls and fractures during daily activities such as walking or exercising by fall-proofing your home and adopting a fall-prevention strategy,” said Ms Choo Yem Kuen, President of Osteoporosis Awareness Society of Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.

“Speak to your doctor to understand if you are at risk of osteoporosis, learn more about your symptoms, and identify suitable preventive measures to maintain good bone health. Bone health knowledge and improved understanding of your risk factors will help towards planning your osteoporosis prevention strategy. Don’t wait till it breaks, check your bones,” advised Ms Choo.

The upcoming WOD activities on the BHAM Facebook page include ‘WFH: Workout from Home Exercises with BHAM Physiotherapists’ FB Live session, ‘How to Fall-Proof Your Home Guide’, ‘Bone-Healthy Recipes’, and highlights from the BHAM bone health awareness survey. Selected audience members can also win vouchers for a complimentary bone health screening by participating in the virtual activities.

About Bone Health Alliance Malaysia (BHAM)
The Bone Health Alliance Malaysia is a collaborative partnership represented by the Osteoporosis Awareness Society of Kuala Lumpur and Selangor (OASKLS), Fragility Fracture Network Malaysia (FFNM), and Malaysian Osteoporosis Society (MOS). Amgen Malaysia is the Supporting Corporate Partner. The partnership is forged to pave way for bone health promotion among local communities, meaningful stakeholder engagement, as well as enhanced treatment and diagnosis with the purpose of improving patient outcomes.

Ultimately, the Bone Health Alliance Malaysia aims to instil routine bone health screening for those aged 60 years old and above, and to facilitate timely diagnosis and treatment in the Malaysian healthcare system. Since most patients only found out they have osteoporosis upon a fracture, the alliance is raising awareness through the slogan of ‘Don’t Wait ‘Till It Breaks, Check Your Bones’.
