Lookout records growth in enterprise customers for fiscal year ending Jan 31

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 21 -- Mobile security leader Lookout Inc has announced a record fiscal year ended Jan 31, 2020, with growth in enterprise customers driven by strong demand for its Phishing, App Defence and Mobile Endpoint Security solutions.

According to a statement, all these are powered by the Lookout Security cloud, the world’s largest mobile dataset.

“Our growth across all customer segments resulted in a remarkable year for our business. In addition to strong customer growth, our low churn rate demonstrates that enterprises see us as their trusted, long-term partner in security,” said the chief executive officer of Lookout, Jim Dolce.

To meet the growing demand for mobile threat defence internationally, Lookout also significantly expanded its global footprint last year, moving its London office and Dutch European headquarters to larger locations and opening new offices in Italy and Sweden.

Meanwhile, in APAC, Lookout has added to its leadership ranks to further grow its presence in Australia and New Zealand, Japan and Singapore. Lookout App Defence also saw strong momentum in the financial services industry globally.

Expanded strategic partnerships and new product integrations with industry leaders including Google, Microsoft and VMware further demonstrated strong adoption of solutions for Post-Perimeter Security and the need to secure enterprises from the growing threats inherent in a mobile-first workforce.

Additional business highlights and industry recognition include the Lookout Security Cloud dataset which has reached over 100 million apps and 180 million devices analysed, launching a solution with Microsoft, and Lookout having been added to Google App Defence Alliance.

BEST'S COMMENTARY: SOUTH KOREA REGULATION CHANGE BRINGS SOLVENCY SOLUTION TO PRIMARY INSURERS, OPPORTUNITIES TO REINSURERS

HONG KONG, Feb 27 (Bernama-BUSINESS WIRE) -- A regulatory change in South Korea permitting co-insurance to be used as a type of reinsurance arrangement may unlock opportunities and alternative capital sources for insurers, while reinsurers may benefit from greater business opportunities, according to a new AM Best report.

Previously, only risk premiums may be ceded to reinsurers under the Insurance Business Act. The change in regulation now allows for risk transfers associated with other types of risks, such as risks from future interest rate changes and policy cancellations, both of which stem from savings premiums under South Korean regulatory definitions. The new Best’s Commentary, titled, “South Korea Regulation Change Brings Solvency Solution to Primary Insurers and Opportunities to Reinsurance Market,” states that with the new amendment, a new source of capital may help to provide solvency relief for life and non-life primary insurers with large interest rate risk exposures as they prepare for the upcoming implementations of both IFRS 17 accounting standards, and a more stringent risk-based capital (RBC) regime — the Korea Insurance Capital Standard — and likely will translate into a positive for primary insurers’ credit profiles.

Unisys to present at Air Cargo India conference next week

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 19 -- Unisys Corporation, a global information technology company has announced its cargo industry director, Niranjan Navaratnarajah will present at the Air Cargo India conference on Feb 26 in Mumbai.

He will discuss why a fundamental cultural change is essential for the air cargo industry to remain nimble, economically viable and combat escalating physical and data security threats.

“In the increasingly competitive air cargo industry, the whole ecosystem spanning airlines, warehouses, freight forwarders, booking agents, customs and road/rail transport must accelerate its digital transformation to be more efficient and remain economically viable,” said Navaratnarajah.

“Some players have made great strides in adopting new technologies, from online marketplaces, to IoT and drones. However, for most of the industry, a fundamental cultural change is required to evolve and create a truly connected supply chain.”

Navaratnarajah has cited three areas where cultural change was required in air cargo, namely, make inventory visible across multiple sales channels to create new business models, focus on both data and physical security, and respond to market demand for specialised cargo.

Reducing shipment dwell time in warehouses is key to improving efficiency. Smarter processes in the warehouse are a first step, but the industry also needs to develop new channels to market.

Unisys has more than 55 years of experience providing innovative IT solutions to the travel and transportation industry. Its cargo solutions are used by many of the world's leading carriers, who collaborate via the Unisys Cargo User Group.

HOLISTIC KPMG ASEAN SCHOLARSHIP DESIGNED FOR UNDERGRADUATES TO GAIN CROSS BORDER EXPERIENCE

KPMG calls for young Malaysians to unleash their potential

PETALING JAYA, Feb 21 (Bernama) -- The KPMG ASEAN Scholarship, a regional scholarship program, is once again open until 20 March 2020 for outstanding Malaysian undergraduates to apply. The scholarship provides funding and employment opportunities in four ASEAN nations alongside Malaysia: Indonesia, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam.  KPMG is the first of the Big 4 professional services firms to offer such program in the region, which was established in 2015.

Eligible scholars who are keen on getting first-hand corporate experience or have interest in acquiring structured cross-border experiences are encouraged to apply. Exceptional undergraduates who are currently in their first or second year of their degree program in any discipline are welcome.

Adrian Lee, Head of People at KPMG in Malaysia, explains “KPMG’s ASEAN Scholarship program enables undergraduates to engage with people from different countries while learning employable skillsets that will benefit them when they graduate and join the workforce. Selected applicants will have the opportunity to broaden their experience with two internships; one with the Malaysia firm and the other within one of the four participating member firms in ASEAN.

“Last year, we received over 460 applicants from various universities across Malaysia and through rigorous selection, have supported five promising graduates from Malaysia to stretch their potential to grow and become leaders of the future.” Adrian added.

Scholars will receive an annual scholarship grant of RM12,000 per annum and allowance for internships abroad. This program also offers employment prospects for excellent scholars upon graduation.

KPMG’s structured program is supported by three pillars – professional development, strategic engagement and social connection – where KPMG’s ASEAN Scholars can anticipate diverse learning and development opportunities.

From the 2017 cohort, local scholar, Natasha Bong Sue Yan, who graduated last year, explained how her internship in Singapore has allowed her to grow outside of her comfort zone.

“I was in my second year of studies at the time of my internship and I was privileged to be able to meet clients from various engagements. This allowed me to gain insights on how different industries function and I brought this knowledge to the classroom. This experience helped to expand my learning curve, especially in areas of customer centric operations.

“I am also thankful for the support system that I received during my internship as my managers and peers were supportive and willing to guide me through, which made me felt appreciated. In the course of my internship, I was able to integrate along with other ASEAN Scholars and we were able to participate in one of the firm’s Corporate Citizenship initiatives, which was a great platform to interact with the community,” shared Natasha, who will be commencing as an Associate with the Strategy and Operations department at KPMG in Singapore in March.

Currently in his last semester pursuing his bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting and Management, Mohammad Uqail Esa, expressed that it was an honour to be selected as he feels this is a jump start to his dream career in the field of audit.

“I look forward to be able to contribute and learn throughout the KPMG ASEAN scholarship program as I anticipate working alongside colleagues and other ASEAN scholars from different countries. To me, that is the epitome of diversity and inclusion,” said Uqail who will be embarking on his career journey with KPMG in Malaysia.

Throughout this program, scholars will be mentored by senior members of staff and management to ensure that they have an all-inclusive experience working at KPMG. Upon joining this program, they are also eligible to access employee benefits such as Flexible Working Arrangements, rapid career advancement and the chance to participate in CSR activities that contribute towards improving the communities.

“Our role in this niche but growing industry as a blockchain technology and cryptocurrency investment media is crucial. We take it upon ourselves to provide accurate and educational information for newcomers to easily access this community while serving the existing enthusiasts. TRAX MOVES CLOSER TO ITS VISION OF DIGITIZING PHYSICAL RETAIL WITH QOPIUS ACQUISITION

SINGAPORE, Feb 18 (Bernama-BUSINESS WIRE) — Trax, a leading provider of computer vision and analytics solutions for retail, today announced its acquisition of Qopius, a top provider of AI-based in-store technology solutions in Europe. The acquisition will serve as a force multiplier in pushing real-time store monitoring and autonomous inventory management into mainstream adoption, helping retailers across the world embrace data and digital innovation to cut costs and boost sales at every shelf.
Retailers and consumer goods manufacturers around the world leverage Trax’s in-store execution and retail analytics solutions to better manage on-shelf availability and optimize merchandising. These solutions are powered by proprietary fine-grained image recognition algorithms which convert photos of retail shelves into granular, actionable shelf and store-level insights.
Qopius’ hardware-agnostic computer vision platform helps retailers monitor in real-time on-shelf inventory for out of stocks, compliance, inventory levels and price integrity at scale. Their platform leverages advanced retail data integration and analytics to empower store managers and staff to take the right action at the right time for streamlined store operations and higher sales. Qopius’ customers include leading retailers such as Carrefour, Metro and MediaMarktSaturn Retail Group.
Computer Vision Saves Retailers from Costly In-Store Execution Issues
Trax’s acquisition of Qopius comes at a time when exceptional customer experience has become the rallying call of every retail executive. A 2019 research study by Trax and Coresight found that 8 in 10 of these executives believe consistent in-store execution – which entails the improvement of issues such as out of shelf or misplaced items, planogram non-compliance and pricing errors – remains the biggest impediment to customer satisfaction. Only 32% of respondents had the right data to monitor how long an item was missing from shelves, while 52% of respondents said they were planning to adopt image recognition technology within the next two years.
Trax CEO and co-founder Joel Bar-El said, “The key to retail success in the new decade is using technology to support employees. This means capturing critical shelf data in real-time to enable employees to fix merchandising and availability issues faster than ever before. Qopius’ proven expertise in digitizing supermarket shelves across Europe and phenomenal talent make it a strategic fit for Trax. We are truly excited to welcome Qopius to the Trax family.”

Taconic Biosciences' humanised mouse model now offers cancer treatments in Europe

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 17 -- Taconic Biosciences’ humanised immune system mice models are now being produced in Europe, helping to create effective new treatments against various cancer forms.

According to a statement, the production provides European drug discovery researchers with easier access to this critical oncology research tool.

Both the huNOG and huNOG-EXL models are now available for off-the-shelf sales from local European inventory.

“The human immune system is incredibly complex and immuno-oncology may be the starkest example of how animal models contribute to scientific breakthroughs by helping researchers understand, and even leverage that complexity,” said Taconic commercial models vice-president, Dr Michael Seiler.

“It is only when these great tools are combined with the right scientific expertise do we see success. Taconic leverages internal expertise plus external collaborations to provide insightful data on these critical models.”

According to the American Cancer Society, there will be 1.8 million new cancer diagnoses this year. Thus, the global bio-pharmaceutical industry continues its focus, specifically on cancer and immuno-oncology.

AM BEST AFFIRMS CREDIT RATINGS OF THE HOLLARD INSURANCE COMPANY PTY LTD

SINGAPORE, Feb 14 (Bernama-BUSINESS WIRE) -- AM Best has affirmed the Financial Strength Rating of A- (Excellent) and the Long-Term Issuer Credit Rating of “a-” of The Hollard Insurance Company Pty Ltd (HIC) (Australia). The outlook of these Credit Ratings (ratings) is stable.

These ratings reflect HIC’s balance sheet strength, which AM Best categorizes as strong, as well as its adequate operating performance, neutral business profile and appropriate enterprise risk management (ERM).

The company’s balance sheet strength assessment is underpinned by its unconsolidated risk-adjusted capitalization, as measured by Best’s Capital Adequacy Ratio (BCAR), which improved to the very strong level in fiscal-year 2019. AM Best views HIC to have robust financial flexibility, which was demonstrated in recent years through a combination of capital injections totaling AUD 50 million and the issuance of AUD 40 million in subordinated debt for fiscal-years 2018-2019. These actions, combined with full earnings retention, have bolstered HIC’s capital adequacy and supported growth in its underwriting operations. Other balance sheet considerations include the company’s adequate reserving approach, reliance on reinsurance and its exposure to illiquid investments arising from equity holdings in affiliated underwriting agencies. AM Best’s balance sheet strength analysis also incorporates a neutral holding company impact following an assessment of consolidated risk-adjusted capitalization at HIC’s immediate parent, Hollard Holdings Australia Pty Ltd. (HHA).

AM Best views HIC’s operating performance as adequate. On an unconsolidated basis, the company has reported operating profits in each of the past five years (fiscal-years 2015-2019), with an average return-on-equity ratio of 5.9%. The company’s equity holdings in strategic and associated underwriting agencies have supported robust, albeit variable, investment returns, which are a key driver of overall earnings at present. HIC’s combined ratio has exhibited an improving trend over recent years, driven by expense ratio improvements as a result of increased operational scale. The combined ratio improved to 99.9% for fiscal-year 2019, compared with 107.0% for fiscal-year 2015 (as calculated by AM Best). As HIC prepares financial statements on an unconsolidated basis, HHA’s consolidated performance also has been considered as part of the operating performance assessment. HHA consolidates the operations of HIC, and all its controlled strategic investments in underwriting agencies.

HGI's Credit Ratings placed under review with negative implications - AM Best

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 11 -- AM Best has placed under review with negative implications the Financial Strength Rating of A (excellent) and the Long-Term Issuer Credit Rating of ‘a’ for Hanwha General Insurance Company Limited (HGI) South Korea.
The under review status follows HGI’s public disclosure on Jan 31, of a consolidated net loss of KRW 69 billion (US$59 million) for its preliminary fiscal-year 2019 results. (US$1 = RM4.14)
HGI has maintained consistent profitability since 2014, although a deterioration in results was observed from 2018, according to a statement.
The deterioration in HGI’s underwriting performance since 2018 was due mainly to inadequate pricing, consequently leading to its inability to catch up with increasing loss costs and expenses in auto and long-term insurance business lines.
While its bottom line had been supported by a stable stream of investment income, which helped mitigate underwriting volatility, the company is also expected to report sizeable impairment losses of KRW 25 billion (US$21 million) from its securities holdings for 2019.
HGI is seeking ways to improve its underwriting profitability, including rate increases for its auto and medical indemnity insurance lines, product restructuring and tighter underwriting.
AM Best will continue to hold discussions with HGI’s management team on its capital and business plans to assess the company’s medium-term balance sheet strength in order to resolve the under review with negative implications status.
Negative Credit Rating actions could occur if HGI’s projected risk-adjusted capitalisation over the medium term decreases to a level that no longer supports the current balance sheet assessment, or if its interest coverage remains insufficient to meet interest commitments.

EMPLOYER'S GUIDE DURING THE FLU PANDEMIC OUTBREAK

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 31 (Bernama) -- With the recent pandemic outbreak such as Influenza flu and the deadly Novel Coronavirus 2019-nCoV (also known as the Wuhan virus), it is important for business owners to stay alert and take precaution steps in protecting your employees and customers alike.

Why is it important to reduce cross-contamination at your premises? Understanding how the virus transmission process and taking the right proactive steps including prevention habits can greatly reduce the risk in cross-contamination and the best prevention of an outbreak of disease.

Protect your employees and customers with these precautionary steps to avoid the spread of the virus at your premises:

1. Providing adequate Hand Hygiene facilities

Hand hygiene is the most basic yet utterly important line of defence to stop the spread of virus! These infectious diseases spread from person to person by direct or indirect contact. Transmission occurs when an infected person touches someone else e.g. via handshake. Droplets released during coughing, sneezing and even speaking can also transmit the virus to others without any touch involved. Do encourage your employees and customers to practice the 3-step hand hygiene frequently, and avoid touching the eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands. These 3-step includes washing your hands with clean water and soap, drying them thoroughly and sanitising them for extra protection.

2. Create a healthy and hygienic workplace to combat cross-contamination

A study shows that Influenza virus can survive on hands and surfaces up to 48 hours, contaminated hands can transfer germs to 7 separate surfaces and a flu infection could spread to the entire office in 4 hours. Indirect virus transmission such as airborne transmission could be prevented through installing air steriliser or air sanitiser that could kill up to 99.99% viruses

Regular cleaning is not just limited to washing your hands, but also includes cleaning on commonly used surfaces and devices. For extra protection, infection control and workstation sanitising services at your premises could help to prevent viral and airborne disease from spreading.
