Both sides discussed possible areas of cooperation between Malaysia and China in the post-epidemic era, focusing on digital economy and digital finance.

Dato’ Sri Tiong King Sing extended a warm welcome to Mr. Liu and his delegation. He said in the meeting that the rapid development of China's economy, especially the rapid recovery after the pandemic has brought huge development opportunities for Malaysia, and there is room for exchange and cooperation between the two countries in various fields with broad prospects. In the fight against the pandemic, China and Malaysia are helping each other to overcome the difficulties. The pandemic has accelerated the arrival of the digital era, and in recent years the government agencies of both countries have introduced a number of new policies to support the integration and development of the digital economy and traditional industries. Asia Digital Bank is willing to leverage its own resources in the field of digital finance to support the Malaysian government while helping Malaysian enterprises to grow and innovate in this field," stated Mr. Liu.

Phoenix Software unveils JES3plus® V1R1 general availability

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 29 -- Phoenix Software International Inc, a systems software development company has announced the general availability of JES3plus V1R1, a derivative work based on IBM’s z/OS® JES3.

This release integrates SPOOL I/O performance enhancements made available to JES3plus customers through continuous delivery earlier this year.

According to a statement, this is the first release of the JES3 technology to contain enhancements since early 2015 and coincides with z/OS 2.5, the last release of z/OS to include JES3.

“We knew early on that enhancing JES3plus to use the latest I/O techniques would be a priority,” said Chief Technology Officer at Phoenix Software International, Ed Jaffe.

“Much of the credit for the smooth rollout of this new, enhanced JES3plus release goes to our ISV partners and Early Test participants whose eager participation and incredible patience contributed greatly to this successful launch.”

JES3plus V1R1 supports two newer channel programming techniques to improve performance.

It is ACKD – channel programmes with a shortened prefix that can process an entire track instead of one record at a time; and zHPF – channel programmes that leverage the z/Architecture fibre-channel-extensions (FCX) facility to transfer the entire channel programme to the device for processing rather than having CCWs transferred as they are encountered.

Phoenix Software’s JES3plus Customer Advisory Council is actively helping to prioritise the product’s enhancement roadmap, so customers should expect to see additional enhancements delivered in 2022 via continuous delivery.

Phoenix Software has refreshed its product line this month. Product downloads are available to customers via the Phoenix Software International Support portal.

WE Communications study reveals consumers want brands to rectify fractured world

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 23 -- WE Communications has released results from its latest Brands in Motion report, ‘The Bravery Mandate’, with the data exposed escalating tension between expectations for brands to drive stability in a fast-changing, fractured world and heightened skepticism about purpose-washing.

“We’ve reached an inflection point where people are craving businesses to fill the leadership void. To be the driving force of positive societal impact, brands should ask themselves, ‘If not us, who?’ and take bold, brave action,” said WE Communications Global Chief Executive Officer, Melissa Waggener Zorkin.

According to a statement, the number of global study respondents saying they expect brands to create stability in uncertain times rose 30 per cent since 2019 — with brands now viewed as important a pillar of society as educators and friend-and-family networks.

Despite those rising expectations, brands’ perceived impact for societal good remains flat, with 52 per cent saying that attempts to impact societal issues are anchored in trying to sell more products or services.

Consumers and B2B decision-makers are voting with their wallets to measure brand support. Two out of three respondents say they are more likely to purchase or recommend products or services from brands that address societal issues that matter to them.

Although two-thirds of survey respondents are open to brands speaking and acting on societal issues, one third are not. Navigating this divide requires active engagement with key stakeholders, including employees, shareholders, customers and community members, to illuminate long-term goals and values.

In addition, the Brands in Motion report dug into expectations when it comes to defining and demonstrating brand purpose. It’s clear that expectations are high and at times nuanced — taking a stance on social issues requires agility and long-term commitment.

Over the past five years, Brands in Motion global studies have surveyed more than 90,000 consumers and B2B decision-makers worldwide to understand the impact of how perceptions shift over time.

The 2021 in-country training sessions will take place virtually in Brazil, Colombia, India, and Mexico.

As part of WEA’s objectives for 2020-2021, the ILO is focusing on strengthening advocacy for women’s entrepreneurship development in Mexico and Brazil. In Mexico, WEA and ILO will be releasing findings from an assessment on framework conditions that impact women’s entrepreneurship development.

Gender-responsive procurement (GRP) can have a transformational impact on domestic and international economies and contribute to women’s economic empowerment.

WEA has participated in the Generation Equality Forum in Paris (June 30-July 2) through the ‘Drivers of Change’ Programming, hosting a panel titled ‘Building a Transformative Strategy for Gender-Responsive Procurement’, aiming to create awareness around the complex and interconnected barriers of women’s entrepreneurship and to promote GRP.

UN Women’s main contributions to the Accelerator’s GRP line of work in 2021 include establishing the Business Case for GRP through the launch of a community of practice (CoP) in July in collaboration with UN Global Compact to engage stakeholders from the private sector.

On Sept 28, the Accelerator will hold a virtual event titled ‘Joining Forces to Drive Change’, convening the senior management of ILO, ITC, UNDP, UNGC, and UN Women with introductory remarks from Mary Kay.

'HIDDEN GEM' ARRIVES IN ROTTERDAM TO BE TRANSFORMED INTO NODULE COLLECTION VESSEL FOR THE METALS COMPANY

  • 228-meter-long ship is expected to be the first to be Classified as a sub-sea mining vessel under American Bureau of Shipping
  • Equipment integration underway to accommodate pilot nodule collector vehicle and riser system engineered and currently being built by Allseas
  • Factory acceptance testing has commenced for system components that will be integrated into the vessel.

NEW YORK, Sept 22 (Bernama-BUSINESS WIRE) -- The Metals Company (Nasdaq: TMC) today announced that the 228-meter-long former drill ship renamed the Hidden Gem has arrived in Rotterdam, The Netherlands to begin its conversion into what is expected to be the first ship classified as a sub-sea mining vessel by the American Bureau of Shipping. TMC’s strategic partner Allseas acquired the former ultra-deep-water drill ship, which can accommodate 200 people, in March of 2020, as her configuration is well-suited for modifications that will enable the deployment at sea of a 4.5 kilometer-long riser to bring polymetallic nodules up from the seafloor.

In partnership with The Metals Company (formerly DeepGreen Metals Inc.), Allseas is developing a deep-sea mineral collection system to responsibly recover polymetallic nodules from the ocean floor and transfer them to the surface for transportation to shore. The nodules contain high grades of nickel, manganese, copper and cobalt—key metals required for building electric vehicle batteries and renewable energy technologies.

“We are very happy to see the Hidden Gem over here in Europe and to see Allseas making such tremendous progress with her,” said Gerard Barron, Chairman and CEO of The Metals Company. “The vessel has successfully embarked on the dry dock maintenance phase, which bodes well for a smooth and timely conversion in advance of our pilot mining project in 2022.”

The Metals Company recently completed its SPAC merger and public listing on the Nasdaq and strategic partner Allseas, a global leader in offshore engineering, congratulated the company. “As a significant existing investor in the company and investor in the PIPE, we further strengthen our strategic relationship with The Metals Company. We share their vision to develop the world’s largest estimated source of battery metals, which will be critical in the green transition,” said Allseas Founder and President Edward Heerema.

TMC and Allseas expect the vessel to be operational for pilot nodule collection tests by mid-2022.

PROCORE TO BUY LEVELSET, SIMPLIFYING CONSTRUCTION LIEN MANAGEMENT WORKFLOWS

Burdensome compliance workflows contribute to the construction industry’s median of 90 days sales outstanding and 74 days payable outstanding, the slowest of all industries surveyed across the globe. (Graphic: Business Wire)

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 23 (Bernama) -- Procore Technologies Inc, a leading provider of construction management software, has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Levelset, an acquisition adding lien rights management to the Procore platform and enabling it to manage complex compliance workflows and improve construction payment process.

It also presents future growth opportunities for Procore, including capitalising on the companies’ complementary data assets.

Procore Founder and CEO Tooey Courtemanche said: “Construction work is hard enough — getting paid shouldn’t be. Levelset helps the construction industry get paid faster, and their offering will be a perfect addition to the Procore platform.

“This acquisition will also give Procore access to industry data, including payments and compliance activity, allowing us to deliver valuable risk intelligence to our customers, and to develop innovative financial products.”

In construction, the risks and complexity of moving money between stakeholders traps vast sums of critical working capital each year, causing cash stress to contractors, increasing working capital and bonding expenses, and negatively impacting construction jobs.

According to a statement, burdensome compliance workflows contribute to the construction industry’s median of 90 days sales outstanding and 74 days payable outstanding, the slowest of all industries surveyed worldwide.

Levelset CEO Scott Wolfe Jr said: “Together with Procore, we can further empower the industry to get paid faster, with better visibility and smoother documentation.”

Procore has agreed to acquire Levelset for a purchase price of approximately US$500 million, which will consist of approximately US$425 million in cash, subject to customary adjustments for working capital, transaction expenses, cash and indebtedness, and approximately US$75 million in Procore common stock. (US$1 = RM4.192)

Over one million projects and more than US$1 trillion in construction volume have run on Procore's platform. Headquartered in Carpinteria, California, Procore has offices worldwide.
