CROWDSTRIKE UNVEILS NEW SINGAPORE HUB, CEMENTING COMMITMENT TO PROTECT BUSINESSES IN ASIA

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 29 (Bernama) -- CrowdStrike, a global cybersecurity leader, has opened its new office in Singapore that will serve as a central hub for the company in Asia.

The new office highlights CrowdStrike’s regional investment and will double the capacity of the previous facilities in Singapore, further cementing the cybersecurity leader’s local presence and commitment to protecting organisations in Singapore and across Asia.

Its vice president of APJ, Geoff Swaine in a statement said it is critical that businesses in Asia adopt modern cybersecurity solutions and a proactive approach to protecting themselves to combat adversaries targeting countries like Singapore, Philippines, Indonesia and Malaysia.

“We saw this need when we first established an office in Singapore in 2016 and have continued to grow our team and business in the region.

“Over that time, CrowdStrike has supported many businesses across multiple sectors and sizes in the shift from using legacy, often signature-based, security solutions that are unable to protect against modern cyber-attacks towards AI-driven and intelligence-based cybersecurity platforms,” he said.

The new office will also include training facilities that CrowdStrike customers and partners can leverage to share best practices on the latest cyber defence strategies and upskill cybersecurity professionals to defend against the adversaries targeting the region.

The move to the new office follows significant business success for the cybersecurity leader in Asia, with Asia Pacific (including Japan) contributing to 10 per cent of CrowdStrike’s total revenue.

Headquartered in the United States with over 23,000 customers, ranging from small businesses to leading global brands and government entities, CrowdStrike is fuelling the next era of artificial intelligence (AI)-powered cybersecurity to stay ahead of rapidly evolving adversary tradecraft and stop breaches.

INVESTMENT MIGRATION, A MECHANISM FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT - HENLEY & PARTNERS

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 28 (Bernama) -- Henley & Partners has seen a significant uptick in interest from both private clients and governments in investment migration programmes as an effective mechanism to improve their resilience to the impacts of climate change and mitigate other sustainability risks.

Besides phasing out fossil fuels, the other two core themes for the upcoming United Nations Climate Change Conference (UNFCCC) COP28 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), are building climate-resilient societies and investing in climate solutions.

In its inaugural Henley Wealth and Sustainability Report, the international residence and citizenship advisory firm highlights how investment migration can assist in addressing both these significant global challenges.

Henley & Partners Chief Executive Officer, Dr Juerg Steffen said several countries were already channelling programme inflows into projects to boost their countries’ climate resilience for the benefit of their citizens.

“Grenada, for instance, has strengthened its resilience against natural disasters by offering investors citizenship in exchange for a contribution to the country’s National Transformation Fund, which supports a range of industries including alternative energy.

“A non-refundable contribution to Antigua and Barbuda’s National Development Fund is another example of how a country is driving its transition to renewable energy through citizenship by investment,” he said in a statement.

The innovative study analyses over 150 data points across five key sustainability and wealth parameters including population density and carbon dioxide emissions per capita, achievement of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and unique wealth tier and wealth per capita data from global wealth intelligence firm New World Wealth.

The report focuses on the Group of Seven (G7) nations, BRICS member states, including the six new countries that will join the bloc in January 2024, namely, Argentina, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, as well as a selection of 19 countries that host investment migration programmes.

The G7 brings together seven of the world’s most advanced industrial economies in the Global North, while the new BRICS plus six configuration represents major emerging economies in the Global South.

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 24 (Bernama) -- Japan’s leading urban landscape developer, Mori Building Co Ltd marked the official launch of Azabudai Hills, a mixed-use complex and world-class new neighbourhood in central Tokyo.

Embracing the concept of “Modern Urban Village – Green & Wellness”, Azabudai Hills is a nature-rich landmark with integrated urban functionalities including a top-tier business centre, residential, retail, cultural, medical facilities and educational institutions.

According to Mori Building in a statement, its vision for Azabudai Hills is to become a standard-setting 21st century "Green & Wellness" community, where people live harmoniously with nature.

Its President and Chief Executive Officer, Shingo Tsuji said Mori Building is dedicated to creating and nurturing cities’ vitality through large-scale urban redevelopment projects.

“Azabudai Hills demonstrates our vision of ‘Green & Wellness’ for urban life as well as our ambition to contribute to the international competitiveness of Tokyo,” he said.

Spanning approximately 8.1 hectares, Azabudai Hills has a total floor area of approximately 861,700 square metre, comprising office space, greenery, residential units, hotel rooms and around 150 retail shops and restaurants, while Mori JP Tower soars to a height of 330 metres, making it the tallest building in Japan.

This reimagined “city within a city” neighbourhood will host approximately 20,000 office workers and 3,500 residents when fully occupied and is expected to welcome 30 million visitors per year.

Top architecture and design teams including Pelli Clarke & Partners and Heatherwick Studio came together to create a landmark that is distinctively Japanese on the one hand by tapping into local aesthetic, topographical, and seasonal elements, while offering a new framework of urban living.

Leading the way in promoting citywide efforts to decarbonise and recycle resources, in which after construction is completed, Azabudai Hills will only use 100 per cent of the electricity supplied from renewable sources, and artificial intelligence technology will be deployed in the energy centre to optimise the management of this large complex’s mixed-use energy consumption.

FWD TAKAFUL PARTNERS WITH AEON INSURANCE BROKERS TO CLOSE THE PROTECTION GAP AMONGST MOTORCYCLISTS IN MALAYSIA

An innovative micro-takaful solution geared towards protecting an underserved segment of road riders

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 22 (Bernama) -- FWD Takaful Berhad (“FWD Takaful”) and AEON Insurance Brokers (M) Sdn. Bhd. (“AIBM”) have partnered to offer a complimentary term takaful plan (“Plan”) via AIBM’s participating motorcycle merchants, aimed at addressing the low protection rates amongst motorcyclists in Malaysia. This collaboration is set to revolutionise the way motorcyclists experience safety and protection on the open road.

Motorcycles, as a mode of transportation, are essential to support the livelihood and lifestyle of Malaysians and due to their affordability, make up 46.6% of all registered vehicles in the nation. In 2022, the number of total registered motorcycle sales reached an estimate of 720,000 units, representing an almost 40% increase from the estimated number of 500,000 units sold in 2021. In view of this, FWD Takaful and AIBM set out to play a more proactive role in protecting motorcyclists and their families. The Plan provides comprehensive coverage in the event of the death of the motorcycle owner, due to natural causes or accidental death, where the sum covered is RM8,000 or RM20,000, respectively. This innovative Plan is offered as part of a complimentary and value-added service to motorcyclists who purchase their vehicle through any of AIBM’s participating motorcycle merchants. In the event of an unfortunate occurrence, the pay-out from the Plan may offer temporary financial relief to the remaining family members, hence reducing the potential financial strain that may occur as a result of their passing. By offering this Plan as part of their motor purchase journey, we also provide an easy onboarding experience that allows our customers to be covered automatically without undergoing a medical check-up as well as a straightforward claims process.

Salim Majid Zain, Chief Executive Officer of FWD Takaful, said, “We are honoured to partner with AIBM to offer this micro-takaful plan, which is designed to be accessible and inclusive, catering to the underserved segment of motorcyclists. With around 83% of households owning a motorcycle, Malaysians’ usage and reliance on two-wheelers are high. This partnership enables us to integrate the term takaful plan as part of a value-added service to protect motorcyclists and their families and tap into a growing market. This partnership will also enable us to do our part in closing the protection gap amongst Malaysians by providing innovative protection products and solutions and support Bank Negara Malaysia’s target to increase the protection penetration rate of 75%, for both conventional and takaful segment.”

Bruce Chen, CEO of AEON Insurance Brokers (M) Sdn. Bhd, said, “Today marks a pivotal moment for us as we join forces with FWD Takaful. This is not just a business alliance but a heartfelt commitment to every motorcyclist in Malaysia, echoing our promise to nurture and elevate our suite of two-wheeler solutions, especially for the motorcycle merchants who hold a special place in our journey. Traditionally, motorcyclists have been greeted with accessories. Today, we are charting a new course. Instead of tangible gifts, we are offering something infinitely more valuable: a safety net, a promise and peace of mind. This partnership is a game-changer for motorcyclists. Our collaboration with FWD Takaful brings together the best in takaful, ensuring that motorcyclists have access to the support they deserve. We are thrilled to be a part of this journey to enhance their protection."

Datuk Wee Hong, Chairman of Malaysia Motorcycle & Scooter Dealers Association also added, “This prolific partnership marks a shift in the way that we cater to and safeguard motorcyclists. Together, FWD Takaful and AEON Insurance Brokers will offer meaningful takaful protection for Malaysian motorcyclists. This partnership not only brings positive change to them but with a protection plan in place, they can also be assured of their family’s financial security, should anything unfortunate happen to them.”

CLINICAL GENOMIC MEDICINE AND GENETIC COUNSELLING TRAINING PROGRAMME IN UAE SUPPORTS 100 PHYSICIANS

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 21 (Bernama) -- The International Center for Genetic Disease (iCGD) at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School, launched a six-month nationwide programme to train 100 physicians across the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in clinical genomic medicine and genetic counselling, to help further genomic medicine’s global promise.

According to a statement, this training programme is implemented in collaboration with the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi and Khalifa University of Science and Technology.

The comprehensive partnership between iCGD, Mass General Brigham, and the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi will help advance life sciences and health care outcomes globally while leveraging the advanced genomics capabilities of the Emirate.

Genomic medicine, also known as precision medicine, offers transformative opportunities to reshape health care and public health from a 'one size fits all' approach to one utilising an individual’s genetic profile, informing their personalised care pathway from prevention and diagnosis, to treatment of diseases and the development of novel and more effective drugs.

With an emphasis on screening, diagnosis, and treatment of a wide spectrum of genetic conditions, clinicians will become deft with the necessary knowledge and skills to address genetic and genomic challenges in a clinical setting.

Additionally, the programme ensures the successful execution of the Emirati Genome Program, bringing precision medicine to the forefront of public health policy formulation and implementation across the UAE.

Delivered by globally recognised Harvard-affiliated experts within the Mass General Brigham system and elsewhere, the programme will enhance the knowledge and expertise of Emirati physicians, who will then be able to further incorporate the latest innovations in genomic medicine and genetic counselling into the clinical care of patients.

The iCGD designed the programme to specifically address the public health needs of the UAE.

By integrating clinical data and genetic information, healthcare providers can improve population screening, diagnosis, prognosis, risk management, and in some cases, offer new and innovative targeted therapy for conditions including cardiovascular diseases, lipid disorders, diabetes, among many other clinically complex morbidities.

'HALLUCINATE' IS CAMBRIDGE DICTIONARY'S WORD OF THE YEAR 2023

 ·  AI tools have ‘hallucinated’ false, biased or harmful information.
·  ‘Prompt engineering’, ‘large language model’ and ‘GenAI’ are among the hundreds of new words and definitions added to the Cambridge Dictionary.
·  Hype and concerns around AI have changed the English language.

CAMBRIDGE, England, Nov 15 (Bernama-BUSINESS WIRE) -- Cambridge Dictionary has announced hallucinate as the Word of the Year for 2023.

The news follows a year-long surge in interest in generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools like ChatGPT, Bard and Grok, with public attention shifting towards the limitations of AI and whether they can be overcome.

AI tools, especially those using large language models (LLMs), have proven capable of generating plausible prose, but they often do so using false, misleading or made-up ‘facts’. They ‘hallucinate’ in a confident and sometimes believable manner.

The Cambridge Dictionary – the world’s most popular online dictionary for learners of English – has updated its definition of hallucinate to account for the new meaning.

The traditional definition of hallucinate is “to seem to see, hear, feel, or smell something that does not exist, usually because of a health condition or because you have taken a drug”. The new, additional definition is:

“When an artificial intelligence (= a computer system that has some of the qualities that the human brain has, such as the ability to produce language in a way that seems human) hallucinates, it produces false information.”

AI hallucinations, also known as confabulations, sometimes appear nonsensical. But they can also seem entirely plausible – even while being factually inaccurate or ultimately illogical.

AI hallucinations have already had real-world impacts. A US law firm used ChatGPT for legal research, which led to fictitious cases being cited in court. In Google’s own promotional video for Bard, the AI tool made a factual error about the James Webb Space Telescope

UNLOCKING THE FUTURE: UNIVERSITI TUN ABDUL RAZAK (UNIRAZAK) EMPOWERS WORKING ADULTS TO UPSKILL AND DRIVE MALAYSIA'S PROSPERITY

Vice Chancellor of UNIRAZAK, YBhg. Prof. Datin Paduka Dr. Samsinar Md Sidin said, “It is an honour for us to collaborate with the MQA in making the APEL initiative an important capacity building avenue for working adults.”

Highlights:

· UNIRAZAK supports the education thrust under the 12th Malaysia Plan for Malaysians to adopt a lifelong learning culture by offering innovative, alternative pathways to higher education.
· Under the Malaysian Qualification Agency’s (MQA) Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL), UNIRAZAK enables the working adult population to resume their studies and achieve their academic aspirations.
· Since 2018, UNIRAZAK has empowered the dreams of 1,340 working adults who have gone on to scale greater heights in their careers and contribute positively to the nation’s economy.

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 16 (Bernama) -- As Malaysia advances to become a high- income nation, there is an urgent need for highly capable knowledge workers to power this transformation. According to the Department of Statistics Malaysia data on employment for Quarter 2 of 2023, there are some 8.83 million jobs in Malaysia of which 62.4% falls under the semi-skilled category, with only 25% in the skilled category and the remaining 12.6% classified as low-skilled.

Add to this scenario the increasing trend of high school dropouts in the country over the past five years, Malaysia faces a situation that may hinder her progress to transition from being a “newly industrialised economy” to that of a “high-income economy”. In the face of these challenges, Universiti Tun Abdul Razak (UNIRAZAK) stands as a beacon of hope, as an enabler, to catalyse the working adults’ ambition to upskill and enhance their knowledge and expertise through quality tertiary education.

UNIRAZAK: The Path to Lifelong Learning and Upskilling
In support of the education thrust under the 12th Malaysia Plan for Malaysians to adopt a lifelong learning culture, UNIRAZAK offers innovative, alternative pathways to higher education for those who may have deferred further studies due to various reasons including financial constraints, health conditions, family commitments or others. UNIRAZAK had received recognition from the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) in 2018 to become one of the first few institutions to officially offer the Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) as a pathway to its Diploma, Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes.

YBhg. Prof. Datin Paduka Dr. Samsinar Md Sidin, Vice Chancellor of UNIRAZAK said, “We are firm advocates of education being limitless and we strive to make quality education accessible to students from all backgrounds. It is an honour for us to collaborate with the MQA in making the APEL initiative an important capacity building avenue for working adults. UNIRAZAK is dedicated to bridging the gap between the nation's need for highly capable knowledge workers and the aspirations of working adults who seek to enhance their expertise.”

With a commendable track record of 93% graduate employability rate since it welcomed its first cohort of students back in 1997, the university offers easy and multiple access to a wide range of courses across 6 faculties today. UNIRAZAK is at the forefront of the Industrial Revolution 4.0 for academia, being one of the earliest institutions to transition to Open Distance Learning (ODL) at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic when the Movement Control Orders restricted daily commuting for all Malaysians.

Blazing the trail for Online Learning
Together with education partner, SKC Education Group, UNIRAZAK developed its own customised online learning platform, known as UROX, to ensure that all its students have easy 24x7 access to learning materials, no matter where they are. With this facility, working adults can pursue further studies and upskill while balancing their professional commitments.

Kartini binti Shahidal, who completed her Master in Management course at UNIRAZAK, said, “The user-friendly, online learning management system UROX streamlined my path to success. Being able to access the necessary resources remotely, helped me broaden my horizons, shaping my journey of perseverance and personal transformation through lifelong growth and success”. She believes that age should never deter anyone from pursuing their passion and is optimistic that her latest accomplishment stands her in good stead for career advancement at her workplace, Suruhanjaya Syarikat Malaysia (SSM). In 2022, UNIRAZAK’s homegrown learning platform UROX clinched the Best e-Learning Management System award at the International University Carnival on E-Learning (IUCEL).

Career advancement to drive professional growth
Software engineer turned business strategist, Zainul Alam bin Abdul Kadir is grateful to UNIRAZAK for accepting his professional qualifications and 20 years of engineering work experience under the APEL A (Access) pathway. “Alhamdulillah, I have achieved my dream of completing an MBA with a focus on leadership. The entire process has boosted my confidence and reinforced my belief in my abilities. Choosing UNIRAZAK has been the wisest decision I have ever made, and the team has been incredibly welcoming and supportive in helping me fulfil my lifelong aspiration,” said Zainul Alam who is currently CEO of Velocity Technology Sdn. Bhd.

Echoing Zainul’s comments, Cindy Saw Yu Pang regards her postgraduate journey as a thrilling experience during which she learned to skilfully balance work responsibilities, family commitments and her studies. Cindy said, “UNIRAZAK's unique teaching styles and guidance left a lasting mark on my academic success, instilling determination, and a love for conquering challenges.” As a Senior Human Resource Manager at a multi- national company, BYD Electronics (M) Sdn. Bhd., completing the Master of Business Administration course at UNIRAZAK also “provided insights to navigate the dynamic international business landscape, preparing me to lead through future uncertainties”, she further elaborated.

To date, UNIRAZAK has empowered the dreams of 1,340 working adults who have benefited from APEL A (Access) pathway to tertiary education. This group comprises 82 Diploma holders, 35 Advanced Diploma awardees, 587 Bachelor’s degree holders, and another 470 individuals who have earned Master’s degrees, along with 166 who have attained PhDs.

“At the upcoming 22nd Convocation Ceremony in early December, UNIRAZAK expects to add 189 more graduates who have benefited from the APEL accreditation, bringing the total cumulative number of empowered working population to 1,529 towards further strengthening the capabilities of our country’s talent pool, insya-Allah,” concluded Prof. Datin Paduka Dr. Samsinar.

Working adults who are keen to invest in their future, upskill and become a driving force in Malaysia’s journey to become a high-income nation can call the Sales and Marketing team at tel.no. 03-27307030, e-mail at info@unirazak.edu.my/crm@unirazak.edu.my or visit www.unirazak.edu.my today for more information about the APEL accreditation offered at UNIRAZAK.
