Despite these challenges, NACRA will continue with its advocacy to promote and recognise excellence in corporate reporting in 2020, given the pivotal role NACRA plays in support of the capital market.

However, changes will need to be made in this year’s NACRA to reflect the new normal and to manage the impacts arising from the COVID-19 crisis and new social distancing norms.

The following are the changes to note as announced today by NACRA joint organisers Bursa Malaysia Berhad (Bursa), the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) and The Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA):

NACRA ORGANISERS ANNOUNCE REVISIONS FOR NATIONAL ANNUAL CORPORATE REPORT AWARDS (NACRA) 2020 DUE TO COVID-19 IMPACTS

CHENGDU IS BECOMING THE ENGINE DRIVING DEVELOPMENT IN CHINA

CHENGDU, China, May 29, 2020 /Xinhua-AsiaNet/--

On April 28, the official website of Sichuan Provincial Government released the Reply and Approval from Sichuan Provincial People's Government for the Founding of the Eastern Chengdu New Area. According to the document, the Chengdu Eastern New Area will become a "new platform for the formation of the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle".

Chengdu and Chongqing are two neighboring megacities located in western China, and citizens of the two cities share similar customs and dining habits. In January this year, the term "Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle" was coined, which the Chinese government intends to position as "important growth pole for high-quality development".

As one of the two core cities of the "Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle", Chengdu's expansion in recent years has garnered widespread attention across the globe. In October 2019, according to a ranking compiled by the Milken Institute, a think tank in the United States, which ranked 262 Chinese cities based on nine development indices, Chengdu even surpassed Shenzhen to top the list of Best-performing Chinese Cities.

"Data from the Best-performing Chinese Cities ranking sufficiently indicate that scientific and technological innovation is the cornerstone for the transformation of Chinese cities in the future." Huang Huayue, General Manager of the Research Department of the Milken Institute Asia Center and co-author of the report, pointed out that "Chengdu is building a hi-tech and modern industrial sphere with sound international reputation and increasing its economic clout in the development of China's western region, both of which fit the level of influence typical of a core city in a megalopolis."

In order to stimulate industrial impetus and potential, incubate and cultivate local technological and innovative enterprises, and attract more technological and innovative firms to set up presence in the city, Chengdu created a "Unicorn Island" in Tianfu New Area in the south of the city, which also happens to be the world's first industrial complex primarily engaged in the incubation and cultivation of unicorn companies. At present, the main structure of the complex Exhibition and Convention Center will soon finish construction, while the whole project is anticipated to come to fruition by 2022.

Other than the "Unicorn Island," the "Business and Innovation Centre for China-Europe Cooperation" is also rising fast into the limelight as the premier destination of choice in western China among technological and innovative companies around the globe. Currently, more than 50 world-famous organizations and corporations such as AWS Joint Innovation Center, Greater China HQ of Norwegian company Opera, French internet-of-things enterprise Sigfox and the Global Asia-Pacific HQ of U.K. firm Vertu.

The gathering and growth of enterprises bring along busier population and cargo traffic between cities and as the national central city closest to Europe, Chengdu's status as an international hub is also becoming increasingly apparent.

Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport is the Chinese mainland's number four aviation hub, where 127 international (regional) routes provide access to five continents. The Tianfu International Airport now under construction is expected to put into operation in 2021, which will position Chengdu as the third city in the Chinese mainland behind Beijing and Shanghai to possess two of its own international airports.

At the same time, Chengdu is also China's railway freight shipping center for access to Europe. The number of departure of the China-Europe Railway Express from Chengdu has maintained its top spot in the country for three straight years. Even under the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic, in January and February this year Chengdu's China-Europe Railway Express still recorded 267 departures, actually equating to a stunning 88% jump compared with the same period last year.

The city's crucial hub position is just as profound domestically. At present, the 280km-long Chengdu-Chongqing High-speed Railway Central Line, a third High-speed rail between Chengdu and Chongqing, is being built, and upon completion the time required to travel between the two cities will drop from 90 minutes today to merely 50 minutes. This is yet another important measure beneficial to the formation of the "Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle" and the integration of the Chengdu-Chongqing City Cluster.

Chengdu is using a "new area" to create the eastern gateway advantageous to the formation of the dual-city economic circle. Perhaps the "Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle" is going to become China's next Yangtze River Delta Megalopolis and the key driver that propels sustained and robust growth of the Chinese economy in the next several decades, and meanwhile Chengdu is the main engine that will provide the core driving force.

Pivotal Preclinical Oncology Platform Expands To Include New Patient-Derived Organoid Models

SAN DIEGO, May 27 (Bernama-GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Crown Bioscience today announced the expansion of their unique organoid platform with the addition of 130 Hubrecht Organoid Technology (HUB) patient-derived organoids (PDO). This marks a significant milestone in the development of CrownBio’s innovative organoid platform and the first, large-scale commercial availability of HUB PDO for oncology drug discovery services.

Organoid technologies are transforming oncology drug development and disrupting the traditionally followed workflows. CrownBio holds an exclusive license from HUB to provide preclinical oncology drug development and validation services using world-leading HUB Organoid Technology, originally developed by the Clevers lab.

“Organoid models will revolutionize the way preclinical oncology research is performed,” said Henry Li, PhD, chief scientific officer at CrownBio. “Using organoids, drug screening will evolve from current linear workflows to a matrixed high throughput screening approach, allowing lead candidates to be tested simultaneously across multiple patient populations in an easily scalable and clinically-relevant model system.”

The newly available models join CrownBio’s established and ever-expanding platform of PDX-derived organoids (PDXO). PDXO are generated using HUB protocols to derive tumor organoids from CrownBio’s PDX collection, which is the world’s largest commercially available panel of PDX. The complementary panels of patient and PDX-derived organoids, alongside parental PDX models, provide the opportunity to change the way drug discovery is conducted.

The combined collection of in vitro and in vivo patient-derived models are clinically relevant and predictive, and the matched model pairs offer a more efficient and informed transition from in vitro to in vivo studies to help reduce the currently high attrition rates of anticancer agents.

“I am delighted to see the HUB Organoid biobank becoming available to the wider research community for oncology drug discovery,” said Rob Vries, PhD, chief executive officer of HUB. “Our partnership with CrownBio is continuing to equip pharmaceutical and biotech companies with the cutting-edge models needed to transform their anticancer agent development programs.”

Benefits of the newly available PDO models include the availability of non-malignant, healthy tissue-derived organoids. This enables PDO studies to be well controlled for studying compound toxicity and therapeutic windows, including matched tissue controls.

The new models cover the important indications of breast, colon, lung, and pancreatic cancer and are directly derived from European patients. The collection includes PDO from primary and metastatic lesions, multiple lesions from the same patient to capture intra-patient heterogeneity, as well as both healthy and tumor organoids.

CrownBio’s organoid platform is available to clients globally. The newly acquired PDO models have completed transfer to CrownBio. They are available for client studies immediately for efficacy and potency evaluation, combination strategy optimization, and lead candidate selection.

KUALA LUMPUR, May 14  -- Ajinomoto Co Inc (Ajinomoto Co) will roll out its nutrition improvement activities globally with the introduction on April 1, of the Ajinomoto Group Nutrient Profiling System for Products (ANPS-P).

According to a statement, ANPS-P is a method of scientifically assessing the nutritional value of products such as powdered soups and frozen foods.

The system will cover approximately 500 products at nine Ajinomoto Group companies in seven countries, including Japan - Ajinomoto Co Inc, Ajinomoto AGF Inc, Ajinomoto Frozen Foods Co Inc, AJINOMOTO CO (THAILAND) LTD, AJINOMOTO VIETNAM CO LTD, PT AJINOMOTO INDONESIA, AJINOMOTO PHILIPPINES CORPORATION, Ajinomoto (Malaysia) Bhd and AJINOMOTO DO BRASIL INDÚSTRIA E COMÉRCIO DE ALIMENTOS LTDA.

The ANPS-P developed by the Ajinomoto Group is based on the scoring method of the Health Star Rating System, an NPS used mainly in Australia and New Zealand.

This system assesses the nutritional value of products based on the quantity of each nutrient that should not be consumed in excess and the quantity of each nutrient and food group that tend to be under-represented in diets and for which intake is recommended.

The introduction of ANPS-P enables a better understanding of nutritional issues by using a common standard to assess the nutritional value of the Ajinomoto Group products.

Based on this understanding, the Ajinomoto Group will continue to revise its products and provide products with high nutritional value that make it easy to reduce salt and consume protein, among other benefits, thereby helping to improve consumer health.

Going forward, the Ajinomoto Group also plans to develop and introduce an NPS for meals that use the Ajinomoto Group products with the aim of providing total support for a nutritionally balanced diet.

Hytera Multi-mode Advanced Radios Deliver Intelligent Technology Solutions For PMR Industry

SHENZHEN, China, May 12 (Bernama-BUSINESS WIRE) -- The PMR industry has undergone tremendous changes in recent years. As the advent of broadband technology offers fast data services such as video calling and streaming, the expectation is that a majority of mission and business critical narrowband PMR users will migrate to broadband, yet many of them want to retain private narrowband systems for highly reliable voice services, which leads to a coexistence of the two technologies. Instead of launching 'smart' devices supporting largely separate broadband and narrowband radio modules, Hytera has introduced truly intelligent multi-mode advanced radios where the two technologies are deeply integrated at all levels to provide mission-critical voice and broadband data on the same device for the first time.

This press release features multimedia. View the full release here:
https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20200512005364/en/

"Deep convergence is achieved at the physical hardware layer, protocol layer, and application layer to deliver a unified communication experience and a richer converged experience to users," explains Zheng Xiaohua, the head of Hytera Pro. Terminal Product Line. "The broadband and narrowband platforms complement each other through their particular capabilities to provide customers with even greater value."

Multi-mode radio pioneer

Zheng points out that the sophistication of the multi-mode advanced radio poses more stringent requirements on the R&D, product delivery, and service capabilities of radio manufacturers. Therefore, not all manufacturers are able to deliver new products to meet new industry trends. Hytera has pioneered broadband-narrowband convergence solutions and multi-mode advanced devices based on market research and demand forecasts.

As early as in 2014, when PMR communication vendors were still exploring the transformation from narrowband to broadband, Hytera began to study a broadband-narrowband converged solution and how to develop converged products.

Hytera launched its innovative PMR-LTE Convergence Solution and the first multi-mode advanced radio PDC760/PTC760 series in 2017. This was followed by the release of its latest multi-mode advanced radio, the PTC680 TETRA/LTE device, in June 2019.

The PTC680 embodies the concept of broadband-narrowband convergence, public and private network collaboration, and multi-purpose design, as it provides mission-critical voice communications and rich multimedia broadband data services on one device.

The new multi-mode advanced radio is proving popular. "At present, the PTC680 is in the market promotion and expansion stage, and it has been well received," reports Zheng.

She adds that in China, pilot projects for the PTC680 have been established or are underway in 19 cities. In overseas markets, including Europe, Asia, and Africa, the target user base is very receptive to new products, and many business partners have shown interest in working with Hytera.

More functionality, more value

As mission-critical communications begin to migrate from narrowband to broadband networks, it is clear that traditional two-way radios can no longer meet the demands of high-end users seeking to take advantage of broadband data applications. As a result, Zheng believes that it is only a matter of time before multi-mode advanced radios replace traditional narrowband radios for mid- and high-end customers.

The main reason for this is the data. The data transmission rate of TETRA radios is only about 28.8 kbit/s. But multi-mode advanced radios with supporting broadband platforms can deliver up to 100Mbit/s high-speed and high-bandwidth broadband capabilities to mission-critical communications users such as police and fire services.

The broadband requirements of industry verticals vary, according to Zheng. "Some users are interested in PoC services, but these are subject to restrictions in terms of capabilities and service level guarantees. A different series of multi-mode advanced radios is required to meet the needs of end-users operating in various scenarios and to protect their original investment in PMR networks. Hytera provides a variety of multi-mode advanced radios and more reliable and comprehensive solutions to meet the specific use case scenarios of different industries," she says.

Hytera has built up years of in-depth understanding of mission and business critical communications users across many industries and use cases. For example, multi-mode advanced radios can be used across Public safety, Airport, Energy industries in conjunction with industry-specific solutions such as Police App, Airport App and Patrol App.

Multi-mode advanced radios are very sophisticated devices, so are they affordable for traditional two-way radio users? "For those users, the price of a more powerful Hytera multi-mode advanced radio is only 5-10% higher than a traditional high-end narrowband radio produced by a counterpart. When the technology platform becomes mature, the multi-mode advanced radio will deliver higher value to users at a lower cost," says Zheng.

Future innovations

Looking ahead, Zheng predicts that in the future multi-mode advanced radios will be able to take advantage of innovations in four key areas: 5G for ultra-reliable, low latency communications including fast processing of Big Data and video at the edge of the network; Artificial Intelligence using new smart chip platforms and algorithms, such as AI Engine or NPU; 'smart soldier' solutions to deliver intelligent personal networks and accessories to frontline staff; and smart personnel management through identification technologies such as voiceprint, facial and fingerprint recognition.

Hytera has established a first-mover advantage in the development of multi-mode advanced radios and narrowband-broadband converged solutions. As more manufacturers become interested in multi-mode advanced radios, market competition will definitely intensify.

Hytera believes that accurate insights into market and customer demands, high R&D investment, and continuous innovation and open ecosystems will be the only effective ways to maintain rapid growth and develop the radio industry into a smart one.

ECOKNIGHTS MARKS ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL YEAR WITH RELEASE OF NEW IMPACT REPORT

Media Kit (Impact Report) link: bit.ly/EK-ImpactReport-2019

KUALA LUMPUR, May 5 (Bernama) -- EcoKnights is proud to announce the publication of their 2019 Impact Report – a comprehensive and in-depth record of the impact-driven works that details the programs EcoKnights has delivered in the field of environmental sustainability together with their partners.

This report is designed to ensure greater organizational transparency and that the positive social, environmental, and economic impacts achieved from these works can be replicated in the future.

According to President and Founder Dr Yasmin Rasyid, the 2019 report provides a more in-depth analysis when compared to previous years. This is done by including more indicators to measure the impact of EcoKnights’ interventions to empower sustainable living.

“This is part of our evolving methodology that we use to help improve the way we quantify and qualify our efforts,” she said.

“It helps show transparency in our work, who we work with, how we work with them, and so forth. By doing this, we hope that we can formulate strategies and efforts that can make a bigger collective impact on sustainability in the country.”

She added that the 2019 Impact Report will give readers an understanding of how to start collaborating with EcoKnights.

Program Director Fadly Bakhtiar said the Impact Report is a testament to the milestones achieved by the organization through the hard work of its youth-led team.

“Notable achievements include restructuring our organisation to five main pillars, each focusing on key aspects of sustainability initiatives,” he said.

“We also improved our overall project management processes in planning, implementation, data analysis, and reporting. Consequently, you will see a huge improvement to our key indicators of progress in the 2019 Impact Report as compared to 2018.”

EcoKnights’ achievements in 2019 include:

Ø Planted 510 trees in degraded areas
Ø Cleaned up three polluted urban rivers
Ø Removed close to 10 tons of waste
Ø 12,591 people benefitted from EcoKnights programs
Ø 43 corporates and 116 stakeholders engaged
Ø RM122,000 in revenue generated from impact market vendors

In addition to these accomplishments, a standout feature in this year’s Impact Report is the Monthly Report Milestones which recognizes over 150 sustainability-driven projects executed by EcoKnights in 2019 together with its dedicated partners.

The report also features personal testimonies from over 40 EcoKnights team members, who average 23 years of age, on how their time at EcoKnights has helped shape them into future leaders.

While 2019 was a largely successful one for EcoKnights, the year ahead is riddled with challenges and uncertainties due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

“The global pandemic is forcing everyone to rethink how to move forward as a society, including EcoKnights, which has reinvented itself to continue empowering sustainable living even in the present realities of self-isolation and social distancing,” says Fadly.

“However, we must continue to influence people to live sustainably, even with the new norms. To do so, we have ventured into the digital space by creating new online initiatives that focus on introducing sustainability to a wider audience.”

This includes KLEFFlix - Malaysia’s first eco-themed online streaming service - designed to raise environmental awareness and whose launch was supported by the new Ministry of Environment and Water.

Other digital initiatives include the School of Sustainability Online Series and ‘suSTAYnability AT HOME’ campaign which aims to educate and encourage people to adopt sustainable living, as well as our Digital Fundraising platform to finance important environmental and social projects.

Further details for these initiatives can be viewed at EcoKnights’ recently revamped website: https://ecoknights.org.my/

It has been a trying but rewarding 2019 for EcoKnights which, moving forward, will continue to hold firm to its vision of empowering people to live sustainably.
