Smiths Medical joins Ventilator Training Alliance app partnership
KUALA LUMPUR, May 27 -- Smiths Medical has joined several of the world’s other ventilator manufacturers in the Ventilator Training Alliance (VTA), supporting frontline medical providers access to a centralised repository of ventilator training.

CHENGDU IS BECOMING THE ENGINE DRIVING DEVELOPMENT IN CHINA

On April 28, the official website of Sichuan Provincial Government released the Reply and Approval from Sichuan Provincial People's Government for the Founding of the Eastern Chengdu New Area. In October 2019, according to a ranking compiled by the Milken Institute, a think tank in the United States, which ranked 262 Chinese cities based on nine development indices, Chengdu even surpassed Shenzhen to top the list of Best-performing Chinese Cities.
"Data from the Best-performing Chinese Cities ranking sufficiently indicate that scientific and technological innovation is the cornerstone for the transformation of Chinese cities in the future." Huang Huayue, General Manager of the Research Department of the Milken Institute Asia Center and co-author of the report, pointed out that "Chengdu is building a hi-tech and modern industrial sphere with sound international reputation and increasing its economic clout in the development of China's western region, both of which fit the level of influence typical of a core city in a megalopolis."
In order to stimulate industrial impetus and potential, incubate and cultivate local technological and innovative enterprises, and attract more technological and innovative firms to set up presence in the city, Chengdu created a "Unicorn Island" in Tianfu New Area in the south of the city, which also happens to be the world's first industrial complex primarily engaged in the incubation and cultivation of unicorn companies. At present, the main structure of the complex Exhibition and Convention Center will soon finish construction, while the whole project is anticipated to come to fruition by 2022.
Other than the "Unicorn Island," the "Business and Innovation Centre for China-Europe Cooperation" is also rising fast into the limelight as the premier destination of choice in western China among technological and innovative companies around the globe. Amazon Announces Five New Utility-scale Solar Projects To Power Global Operations In China, Australia, And The U.S.
SEATTLE, May 21 (Bernama-BUSINESS WIRE) -- Today, Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) announced five new renewable energy projects in China, Australia and the U.S. that further support Amazon’s commitment to reach 80% renewable energy by 2024 and 100% renewable energy by 2030 (and potentially as early as 2025), as well as to reach net zero carbon by 2040.
Amazon’s first renewable energy project in China is a 100 megawatt (MW) solar project in Shandong. Once complete, the project is expected to generate 128,000 megawatt hours (MWh) of clean energy annually.
Amazon’s second renewable energy project in Australia is a 105 MW solar project in New South Wales. This project will have the capacity to generate 250,000 MWh of clean energy each year, which is enough to power the equivalent of 40,000 average Australian homes.
Amazon’s newest renewable energy projects in the U.S. include two new projects in Ohio, a 200 MW solar project and an 80 MW solar project. Additionally, a new 130 MW solar project in Virginia brings the total number of renewable energy projects in the Commonwealth to 12. Once enabled, these three U.S.-based projects have the capacity to power the equivalent of 69,000 average U.S. homes each year.
When complete, the five new Amazon renewable energy projects totaling 615 MW of installed capacity will supply approximately 1.2 million MWh of additional renewable energy to the company’s fulfillment network and Amazon Web Services (AWS) data centers, which power Amazon and millions of customers globally.
To date, Amazon has announced 31 utility-scale wind and solar renewable energy projects and 60 solar rooftops on fulfillment centers and sort centers around the globe. KUALA LUMPUR, May 14 -- Ajinomoto Co Inc (Ajinomoto Co) will roll out its nutrition improvement activities globally with the introduction on April 1, of the Ajinomoto Group Nutrient Profiling System for Products (ANPS-P).
According to a statement, ANPS-P is a method of scientifically assessing the nutritional value of products such as powdered soups and frozen foods.

ECOKNIGHTS MARKS ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL YEAR WITH RELEASE OF NEW IMPACT REPORT

KUALA LUMPUR, May 5 (Bernama) -- EcoKnights is proud to announce the publication of their 2019 Impact Report – a comprehensive and in-depth record of the impact-driven works that details the programs EcoKnights has delivered in the field of environmental sustainability together with their partners.
This report is designed to ensure greater organizational transparency and that the positive social, environmental, and economic impacts achieved from these works can be replicated in the future.
According to President and Founder Dr Yasmin Rasyid, the 2019 report provides a more in-depth analysis when compared to previous years. This is done by including more indicators to measure the impact of EcoKnights’ interventions to empower sustainable living.
“This is part of our evolving methodology that we use to help improve the way we quantify and qualify our efforts,” she said.
“It helps show transparency in our work, who we work with, how we work with them, and so forth. By doing this, we hope that we can formulate strategies and efforts that can make a bigger collective impact on sustainability in the country.”
She added that the 2019 Impact Report will give readers an understanding of how to start collaborating with EcoKnights.
Program Director Fadly Bakhtiar said the Impact Report is a testament to the milestones achieved by the organization through the hard work of its youth-led team.
“Notable achievements include restructuring our organisation to five main pillars, each focusing on key aspects of sustainability initiatives,” he said.
“We also improved our overall project management processes in planning, implementation, data analysis, and reporting. Consequently, you will see a huge improvement to our key indicators of progress in the 2019 Impact Report as compared to 2018.”
EcoKnights’ achievements in 2019 include:
Ø Planted 510 trees in degraded areas
Ø Cleaned up three polluted urban rivers
Ø Removed close to 10 tons of waste
Ø 12,591 people benefitted from EcoKnights programs
Ø 43 corporates and 116 stakeholders engaged
Ø RM122,000 in revenue generated from impact market vendors
In addition to these accomplishments, a standout feature in this year’s Impact Report is the Monthly Report Milestones which recognizes over 150 sustainability-driven projects executed by EcoKnights in 2019 together with its dedicated partners.
The report also features personal testimonies from over 40 EcoKnights team members, who average 23 years of age, on how their time at EcoKnights has helped shape them into future leaders.
While 2019 was a largely successful one for EcoKnights, the year ahead is riddled with challenges and uncertainties due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.
“The global pandemic is forcing everyone to rethink how to move forward as a society, including EcoKnights, which has reinvented itself to continue empowering sustainable living even in the present realities of self-isolation and social distancing,” says Fadly.
