MILREM ROBOTICS DELIVERED TWO THEMIS UGVS TO THE DUTCH ARMY

OIRSCHOT, The Netherlands, May 28 (Bernama-BUSINESS WIRE) -- The Robot and Autonomous Systems (RAS) Unit of the 13th Light Brigade of the Royal Netherlands Army received two THeMIS unmanned ground vehicles developed by Milrem Robotics in April for their Concept Development and Experimentation Project.

Milrem Robotics delivered the two UGVs in the middle of April for the Army’s project that looks into how to exploit the possibilities new unmanned platforms provide for increasing combat power and decreasing risk to soldiers.

The THeMIS UGVs were delivered in transport configuration together with initial spare parts and accessories. The company will also provide operator and maintenance training, tactical deployment know-how and life cycle support and upgrades during a two-year period.

“We are extremely proud to have the THeMIS in operation with the Royal Netherlands Army,” Kuldar Väärsi, CEO of Milrem Robotics stated. “Rigorous tests and combat exercises held in Europe, US and the Middle-East have proven that the THeMIS is an effective tool for dismounted troops and we have no doubt the Dutch Army will be more than satisfied,” he added.

“The THeMIS UGVs were chosen for their superior terrain skills – this 1,5-ton robot can effortlessly negotiate 30 degree slopes while carrying a payload of at least 750 kg with ease,” said Lieutenant Colonel Jules den Ouden, commander of the RAS unit.

The THeMIS’ capabilities were put to the test right after delivery in the tough Scottish landscape during an exercise where the RAS used unmanned ground vehicles for the first time.

“The THeMIS played a major role in the supply chain. Why would we need to go get ammo and set ourselves up as targets when the THeMIS can bring it to us?” the commander asked.

The THeMIS has been previously deployed in several military exercises for example Last Mile and Army Warfighting Experiment 2018 in the UK. One THeMIS UGV was recently deployed in Mali together with soldiers from the Estonian Defence Forces.

AM Best´s report expects captive domicile growth in Asia-Pacific

KUALA LUMPUR, May 17 (Bernama) -- AM Best in its new report expects to see significant growth of captive formations in Asia-Pacific (APAC) domiciles as economies grow and businesses seek new and more sophisticated ways of risk management and control.

In the Best’s Market Segment Report, ‘Asia-Pacific Captive Domiciles Poised for Growth’, AM Best looked at the state of APAC captive domiciles and reported that captive insurer growth to date had remained relatively slow, mainly due to the persistently competitive insurance market.

With abundant capacity available at cheaper costs, the benefits of establishing a captive may not seem particularly attractive. A lack of knowledge and understanding of captive insurance also pervades the APAC region.

However, businesses have expanded their use of captive insurance past providing cover for traditional property and liability risks into non-traditional classes of risk, such as cyber and trade credit.

The report stated that as Asia’s economies rose in prominence, fuelled by the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises, captive domiciles in APAC would thrive.

Singapore, Labuan and the Federated States of Micronesia stand out as established captive domiciles while China and Hong Kong, emerging as regulators have been keen to develop captive insurance in their jurisdictions.

MENICON ANNOUNCES LAUNCH OF MENICON BLOOM MYOPIA CONTROL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

NAGOYA, Japan, May 24, 2019 /Kyodo JBN- AsiaNet/ --

- Launch Features Initial Introduction of Menicon Bloom Night, First and Only CE-approved Orthokeratology Contact Lens in Europe for Myopia Control -

Menicon Co., Ltd. announced on May 24 the launch of the Menicon Bloom Myopia Control Management System, a holistic approach for myopia control management. The launch features the initial introduction of Menicon Bloom Night, an orthokeratology contact lens therapy for myopia control management.

(Logo: https://kyodonewsprwire.jp/img/201905216625-O1-4k0Q106r)

Myopia, also known as near- or short-sightedness, is the most common refractive error and the major cause of vision impairment worldwide. It affects approximately 30% of the world's population and its prevalence has been forecast to affect about 50% of the world's population by 2050. The prevalence of myopia in young adolescents has been increasing in recent decades to about 30% in industrialized societies of the West and epidemic levels of over 90% in some parts of Far East Asia. Globally, it is recognized as a significant public health concern associated with increased ocular-related morbidity and considerable healthcare costs.

Menicon Bloom Night therapy involves the overnight wear of a specially designed reverse geometry orthokeratology contact lens, manufactured in hyper oxygen-permeable Menicon Z rigid material that ensures optimal corneal oxygenation for comfortable and safe contact lens wear. The treatment temporarily changes the shape of the cornea, which results in reduction of refractive error, thus eliminating the need to wear contact lenses throughout the waking hours after lenses are removed. The new corneal shape provides a particular optical path for incoming light that counters the ocular growth response associated with myopia development. Through this mechanism, Menicon Bloom Night is indicated for the correction of refractive myopia and for control of myopia when prescribed and managed by a qualified eye care professional.

Menicon Bloom Night contact lenses have been reviewed and validated via numerous comprehensive, peer-reviewed studies related to myopia control management. Menicon Bloom Night therapy has proven to be well accepted by parents and to improve children's self-esteem in terms of physical appearance, participation in activities, academic performance and peer perception. With the accumulation of long-term and comprehensive scientific evidence over the years, Menicon Bloom Night has met the highest standards of safety, efficacy and quality required to grant the treatment CE approval for myopia control management in Europe.

The fitting of Menicon Bloom Night is optimized by the use of Easyfit software, a sophisticated, user-friendly tool which accurately guides the eye care professional through the fitting process. Additionally, a specially designed mobile phone application, Menicon's Virtual Dr., has been developed to enhance the monitoring and communication process between eye care professionals and patients. Menicon Bloom Night is only available for certified eye care professionals. With the launch of this groundbreaking myopia care therapy, Menicon has become one of the few companies to have devices officially approved for myopia control management in Europe and demonstrates the company's continued commitment to the field of myopia control.

Menicon Bloom Night will be launched initially in The Netherlands, followed soon thereafter with launches in other European markets. Further information about the product and availability will be forthcoming soon.

Dr. Hidenari Tanaka, CEO, Menicon Co., Ltd., commented: "We are delighted with the major breakthrough achieved with the approval and launch of our Menicon Bloom Myopia Control Management System. We are confident that our continuing commitment to myopia control management will position Menicon as a key contributor in this field and strengthen our position as a global vision care company. It is our belief that the growing prevalence of worldwide myopia progression requires a comprehensive and educated response and we have identified this as a major initiative within our development programs. As a pioneer of contact lenses, we will develop our myopia control business based on our accumulated technology, products and services and contribute to society by supporting eye care professionals in managing the fast growing incidence of myopia."

In India (77 per cent), Brazil (72 per cent) and China (66 per cent) of respondents try to have a positive environmental impact via their daily chores.

Hedin said despite the global growth of meat substitute sales and consumption, the meat industry was still expected to grow at a faster rate by 2023.

“Pricing and availability of meat substitutes are two key factors that currently hold back its penetration worldwide.”

INSTAWEB FUNDED BY CRADLE

KUALA LUMPUR, May 2 (Bernama) -- Etesha Sdn Bhd. has raised RM800,000 from Direct Equity 800 (DEQ800) led by Cradle Fund Sdn Bhd (Cradle) for its instant web builder, Instaweb.

Instaweb is an automated website builder which creates instant websites from Facebook page instantly. Instaweb has grown to support over 3,000 customers by bootstrapping the business over the years. Partnering with TM Info Media since 2017, the website builder has seen a sharp increase in its user base and subscription.

TM Info Media (TMIM) is a subsidiary of Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) that provides digital marketing solutions for businesses mainly but not limited for Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs). Their solutions include business directory, website builder, social media and search engine marketing which aim to empower SMEs in Malaysia to grow their business with online platforms.

CEO of TM Info Media, Sean Koh Chin Soon said that partnering with startups makes execution smooth and easier as there is less red tape. TM Info Media is pleased to support an impressive Malaysian-made product like Instaweb and sees a long-term partnership with Etesha Sdn Bhd.

Issani Isa, CEO of Etesha said that the funding will be utilised to expand Instaweb’s customer base. They are targeting to help 10,000 SMEs to have their own websites. In addition to that, they plan to upgrade the platform, grow the team and improve their services aside from market expansion. Currently, Etesha is working on expanding Instaweb to Australia, Japan and Thailand.

He added, “We decided to partner with Cradle after considering their unblemished track record of funding homegrown startups, founder-friendly approach and connection to the Ministry of Finance Malaysia. We are hopeful Cradle can bring attention to the Government about our homegrown solution that has been solving website penetration problem among SMEs in Malaysia at scale.”

Kamarul Nizam, who formerly led investments at a telco-backed venture capital fund and Reza Razali, a long-time serial entrepreneur in the digital space, have both lent their weight behind Instaweb as board members. Kamarul said, "Instaweb is a low-cost, high-impact solution that has gained momentum among SMEs wanting to put their brand out on the digital world instantly and without much fuss. I'm convinced this capital infusion will level-up Instaweb's ability to delight their customers."

It provides SMEs with a solution that transforms their digital presence with seamless integration with their social media accounts.  As the technology continues to become more ubiquitous, you can expect that this will be the new web building experience.”

The idea of Instaweb started when Issani received many requests from friends to build a website for them. Issani realised he needed a solution that can build multiple websites instantly and also at a very competitive cost. That's when he decided to build the Instaweb platform with his good friend Indera Nordin. It took them a few months to build the engine and after the initial batch of highly satisfied customers, business begins to snowball and the rest is history.
