NIKKISO CE&IG TO INCREASE EUROPE'S MANUFACTURING CAPACITY BY TWOFOLD

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 30 (Bernama) -- Nikkiso Clean Energy & Industrial Gases Group (CE&IG), part of Nikkiso Co Ltd’s Industrial Business segment, has announced the expansion of its manufacturing operations in Wurzen, Saxony, Germany, which will nearly double the group’s manufacturing capacity in Europe.

Nikkiso CE&IG Chief Executive Officer, Adrian Ridge said the group brings a depth of experience in the cryogenics industry that few can match.

“The facility in Wurzen will be Nikkiso’s manufacturing hub in Europe and complement our customer centre in Neuenburg,” he said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Saxony Prime Minister, Michael Kretschmer said: “The facility expansion of Nikkiso in Wurzen is a far-sighted investment that shows how attractive Saxony is as a business location for international investors.

“The doubling of production capacity is a vote of confidence that we can be proud of. With this decision, Nikkiso will become an important part of the hydrogen economy that we in Saxony want to rely on in the coming decades.”

With the additional space, the group will build on its existing carbon capture business and bring new manufacturing capabilities for cryogenic pump assembly, heat exchangers and hydrogen fuelling skids.

This is to meet market demand for cryogenic equipment and plant solutions used in clean energy projects like hydrogen fuelling stations, liquefied natural gas (LNG) and ammonia terminals, and hydrogen production plants.

Expanding manufacturing space and capabilities in Europe will help the group share knowledge and expertise between regions and provide good-paying jobs for local workers, resulting in approximately 20 per cent growth in the near term with further growth expected longer term.

Facility operations are and will continue to be fully powered by renewable solar energy when the expanded operation is complete in the first half of 2025.

MAKING IT LESS COSTLY TO BE GBI-CERTIFIED

This latest initiative by GBI is to incentivise project owners who appoint PAM and ACEM members for their respective consultancy services, says Ar. Adrianta.

GBI Offers 20% Discount on Registration Fees for New Project Applications

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 30 (Bernama) -- Green Building Index (GBI), Malaysia’s premier and international green rating tool for buildings and townships, was launched in 2009. It was developed through the spirit of necessity as a professional driven initiative by Pertubuhan Akitek Malaysia (PAM, the Malaysian Institute of Architects) and Association of Consulting Engineers Malaysia (ACEM).

As a celebration of its 15th Anniversary, GBI is giving a 20 per cent discount on registration fees for new project applications submitted from 1 September 2024 onwards. To qualify for the discount, the architects and engineers appointed for the projects must be registered members of PAM or ACEM.

GBI Chairman, Adjunct Prof. Ar. Adrianta Aziz, said this latest initiative is to incentivise project owners who appoint PAM and ACEM members for their respective consultancy services. This is also to show our appreciation to the project owners who have strongly supported GBI through the years.

“This further reflects our commitment towards creating a sustainable built environment for our future generations through GBI’s 18 rating tools, which have been developed by the many GBI professional volunteers through the years.

“Since our establishment in 2009, GBI has been entrusted by more than 1,200 building owners to have their buildings green-certified. These include international and national organisations and companies, federal and state government ministries and agencies, public and private universities and individual residences.

“Of these 1,200 building projects, GBI has certified 702 buildings as of 31 July 2024, accounting for 316.4 million square feet of GBI rated building Gross Floor Area. These GBI accredited buildings have reduced the country’s greenhouse gas emissions by 1.829 million tons of CO² per annum.

“With another 500 buildings having registered for certification, the total registered Gross Floor Area under GBI is around 600 million square feet. This places GBI as the undisputed leading certification body for green buildings and townships in Malaysia,” said Ar. Adrianta, who is also PAM President.

Varian’s HyperSight Offers Next Generation In-Room Imaging For Radiotherapy Treatment In APAC

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 27 (Bernama) -- Varian, a Siemens Healthineers company, announced the launch of HyperSight imaging solution for its TrueBeam and Edge systems across the Asia Pacific (APAC) region (excluding China).

This upgrade gives clinicians unparalleled image quality, enhancing their ability to deliver precise and efficient radiation therapy treatments, as HyperSight optimises workflows across Varian’s entire suite of linear accelerators, enabling more tailored treatment for each patient.

“Guided by the evolving needs of radiation therapy based on current clinical trends, this innovation exemplifies our commitment to advancing clinical practice and providing high quality solutions for cancer patients everywhere.

“By combining advanced imaging with precise treatment delivery, we empower clinicians to deliver superior care,” said Varian APJ President, Hideaki Mori in a statement.

HyperSight acquires high-quality images and offers an extended field of view during a patient's daily radiation treatments, which is particularly beneficial for treating large cancers.

This facilitates accurate tumour volume targeting, reduces target volume margins, and preserves healthy tissue. It provides Hounsfield Unit (HU) accuracy needed for treatment planning directly on the acquired conebeam CT (CBCT) images, allowing clinicians to calculate changes in tumours and surrounding organs with greater precision, helping to adjust treatments more effectively.

This eliminates the need for separate CT scans, potentially avoiding extensions to a patient’s hospital stay. HyperSight is designed for all anatomical sites and has a 50 per cent faster gantry rotation compared to traditional CBCT scans, which can take up to 60 seconds.

For existing TrueBeam and Edge users, the upgrade seamlessly integrates with their systems, reducing motion-related artefacts due to patient movement and minimising discomfort from prolonged treatment times.

Varian is committed to supporting healthcare providers with an innovative portfolio of radiotherapy solutions, including HyperSight, and is working with regulators to review reimbursement models to support optimal patient care.

EMPOWERING WOMEN, DRIVING CHANGE: FGV'S RESOLUTE STAND FOR GENDER EQUALITY AND WOMEN EMPOWERMENT

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 23 (Bernama) -- Building on its established commitment to Gender Equality and Women Empowerment (GEWE), FGV Holdings Berhad (FGV) has taken a groundbreaking step forward. By integrating a gender perspective into its Group Sustainability Policy (GSP), this initiative is an integral part of its recently launched Sustainability Framework in July 2024 which emphasises women empowerment agenda as one of the focus areas under the Social pillar.

In further supporting the GEWE agenda, the Group achieved a historic milestone, enhancing its governance structure by appointing two distinguished female Independent Non-Executive Directors (INEDs), Dato’ Dr Suzana Idayu Wati Osman and Puan Nurul Muhaniza Hanafi, to its Board in April 2024. This move signifies FGV’s unwavering dedication to diversity, equity and inclusion across all organisational levels.

With these appointments, women now represent 50 percent of the Group’s Board composition, exceeding the Malaysian Code on Corporate Governance’s (MCCG) recommendation of a 30 percent women representation minimum on the board. The Group’s initiatives align with the broader industry’s evolving standards for diversity, equity and inclusion. This commitment is evident not only in strategic decision-making at the executive level but also in the day-to-day operations of the Group which include the establishment of the GEWE Committee in FGV.

Established in February 2021, the GEWE Committee plays a pivotal role in promoting full respect and support for women’s rights in the workplace, ensuring equality and non-discrimination. This committee guides the development of comprehensive gender equality policies and action plans, reinforces its commitment to equal opportunities and a zero-tolerance stance against all forms of discrimination in the workplace.

Aligned with the Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs), FGV expands its focus beyond the boardroom to advancing GEWE across the organisation, supported by LeadWomen as an external consultant which was appointed in March 2024. The WEPs is a set of principles launched by UN Women and the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) which guides businesses on advancing gender equality and women empowerment in the workplace, marketplace and community.

Since 2020, LeadWomen, a social enterprise focused on driving Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) in Boardrooms and Workplaces, served as UN Women Asia Pacific appointed firm in running the WEPs Activator Campaign for Malaysia and continues to support the private sector in the country to implement sustainable and holistic gender DEI initiatives. LeadWomen’s collaboration with FGV will involve multiple engagements and interventions, including but not limited to, policy review, gaps assessment, roundtable discussions, action planning and awareness training across the Group.

Dato’ Nazrul Mansor, Group Chief Executive Officer of FGV, reaffirms FGV’s commitment to fostering a culture of diversity and inclusion, with a focus on empowering women and recognising their roles in leadership positions.

“At FGV, we believe that gender equity is not just a moral imperative but a strategic advantage that enhances our corporate governance and propels our growth. The appointments of Dato’ Dr. Suzana and Puan Nurul Muhaniza to our Board of Directors are a testament to our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, as well as to fostering a diverse and inclusive corporate culture, for a more dynamic and innovative governance structure.”

Furthermore, the Group also created history by appointing its first female mill manager, in January 2024 marking a significant stride in promoting gender diversity and equality in a sector traditionally dominated by male leadership.

In 2023 and 2024, FGV also organised several initiatives to support GEWE that includes celebrating International Women’s Day with activities such as panel discussion on women empowerment and gender equality in the palm oil sector, held in collaboration with LeadWomen and attended by 100 participants from various sectors. During this event, FGV also announced its commitment as a signatory to the WEP.

Additionally, FGV collaborated with the Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC) for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women by organising a workshop to raise awareness and understanding of sexual harassment, attended by 50 representatives from FGV and other palm oil companies. The workshop covered topics on gender, power dynamics, gender-based violence, and workplace sexual harassment. Furthermore, FGV launched the Women in Leadership Programme, designed for female employees at the Manager and Senior Executive levels, to nurture future leaders and promote more women in leadership roles, enhancing organisational performance and societal impact.

Through these actions, FGV showcases ongoing commitment to championing women’s rights and fosters gender equality within its organisation and the broader industry. This focus aligns seamlessly with the recently launched FGV Sustainability Framework in July that encompasses 5 main pillars that include Economic Growth, Governance, Social, Environment, and Innovation & Technology. The framework also prioritises human rights and compliance with labour standards while aiming to foster positive environmental and social impacts.
