PDG NS 2024: EMPOWERING TEACHERS ON RESPONSIBLE USE OF TECHNOLOGY TOWARDS BUILDING RESILIENT FUTURE PROBLEM SOLVERS

- PDG NS 2024 also sees 411 teachers graduating from programme

PUTRAJAYA, Nov 13 (Bernama) -- Yayasan PETRONAS Program Duta Guru (PDG) National Symposium 2024 gathered over 1,000 teachers, education officers and policymakers to discuss the responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI) in education.

Fadhlina in her officiating speech, emphasised the significance of the symposium’s theme this year, “PDG National Symposium’s theme complements the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) ecosystem particularly on the effort to showcase Science as the problem solver and the multi solution to complex global issues. More importantly, Science builds Higher order thinking skills (HOTS) which is critical for a rapidly evolving educational landscape,”

PDG National Symposium serves as a collaborative platform that brings educators together to exchange ideas, share best practices, build lasting networks, whilst also encouraging teachers to implement STEM projects that engage students in their exploration of STEM. This fourth Annual National Symposium will conclude with a Duta Guru graduation ceremony, where 411 teachers from cohort four of PDG will graduate after their two-year journey.

Shariah Nelly Francis, CEO of Yayasan PETRONAS in her welcoming remarks shared: “Through Program Duta Guru we are supporting the ecosystem by empowering educators with both the resources and support to explore innovative teaching methods in STEM, as Duta Guru plays a vital role in inspiring the next generation of problem solvers. This includes the recent completion of STEM Hub centres in Tanjong Karang, Bukit Besar and Miri. Additionally, three more STEM Hub centres are under discussion for development in the Northern, Southern region and Sabah,”

The Minister also announced that 28 teachers have been selected to receive the Duta Guru funding, a dedicated support mechanism exclusively for graduates of the Program Duta Guru. The funding this year will support 14 teachers in implementing STEM projects within their schools, while the remaining 14 recipients will establish Student Innovation Centres (SIC) in their respective schools.

Aimed at strengthening student’s interest and skills in STEM education and Higher order thinking skills (HOTS), this student-led centre also serves as a platform for students to foster their leadership skills and increase their confidence in leading STEM innovation in their school and community.
