KUALA LUMPUR, March 14 (Bernama) -- Cloudflare Inc, an Internet
performance and security company, today announced the general availability of
Cloudflare Workers, a new way for developers to deploy and execute their code
directly at the edge of Cloudflare's global network.
Cloudflare Workers brings the power and flexibility of a cloud data centre, and the redundancy of a massively distributed system, within milliseconds of virtually every Internet user.
The solution is priced at 50 cents per one million tasks, making its pricing easy to understand, globally consistent, predictable, and less expensive than centralised alternatives.
Cloudflare Workers runs across over 127 of Cloudflare's data centres and dynamically scales to meet the demands of any load.
The uses cases for Cloudflare Workers are emerging across a variety of verticals such as adtech beta customers using Workers to run real-time tests to determine which advertisement versions yield the best conversions. They have benefited from higher conversions for their customers and increased revenue as a company.
In another scenario, an eCommerce customer uses Workers to identify the type of device users are connecting from so that they can optimally deliver images, resulting in a better user experience and ultimately more purchases.
Prior to Cloudflare Workers, there were two main places where developers could deploy code: front-end code running on an end user´s device, or back-end code running in a central data centre. Both have their drawbacks.
Code running on an end user´s device is difficult to update and is limited by power and bandwidth, while code running in a central data centre can have substantial network latency and be subject to outages.
"By bridging the front-end and back-end with a third place to develop code, we´re excited Cloudflare Workers will empower a new class of applications that were previously impossible. I can´t wait to see what developers build," said co-founder and chief executive officer of Cloudflare, Matthew Prince.
