Cisco's new study on the way businesses operate their IT

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 2 (Bernama) -- Cisco Systems Inc has launched its new IT Operations Readiness Index revealing how data is transforming the way businesses operate their information technology (IT).

Cisco’s Global vice-president (IoT, Blockchain, AI and Incubation Business), Joseph Bradley said: “Fuelled by data and empowered by automation, IT can operate in real-time, be predictive, and rely on detailed data to have a true seat at the table, delivering strategic value for their organisation and customers.”
The Index reveals that IT spends around 78 per cent of their budgets simply “running the business” which leaves little room for innovation. It suggests reallocation of budgets to prioritise transformational activities as some organisations are already progressing along the IT operations maturity model.
“Through analytics and automation, CIOs can evolve from blindly reacting to events such as outages to continuously monitor and optimise their infrastructure based on predictions of future needs to deliver strategic outcomes for their business partners,” said Bradley.

Key findings of the Index include operations becoming a strategic focus for business success, with 28 per cent of the survey respondents’ IT budgets spent on optimising and remediating IT operations and they are expected to increase that budget over the next 12 months.
Investing in operations also drives customer benefits and value to the business as 88 per cent of IT leaders said their investment in IT operations over the past 12 months had improved external customer satisfaction and 89 per cent noted improvements in innovation.
It is also highlighted that AI and talent will result in success, with 42 per cent of the respondents saying AI was the emerging technology that would have the biggest impact on their ability to automate, while 51 per cent of respondents used AI to improve automation capability.
The Index surveyed more than 1,500 senior IT leaders worldwide to understand where organisations are on their IT operations transformation journey, revealing a four-step model for IT operations maturity, focused on how organisations handle events they face.
Cisco is the worldwide leader that has been making the Internet work since 1984. More details at https://newsroom.cisco.com.
