Keio Plaza Hotel Tokyo hosts Japanese cultural exhibition in August

KUALA LUMPUR, July 31 (Bernama) -- Keio Plaza Hotel Tokyo (KPH), a prestigious international hotel in Shinjuku will host a cultural exhibition themed ‘Staying Cool in Summer - Japanese Wisdom and Beauty’, beginning Aug 8 until Sept 25.

According to a statement, the cultural exhibition will display how the Japanese use their wisdom and aesthetic sense of beauty to stay cool during the hot summer months.

Ornate yukatas (casual kimonos), fans, wind chimes, hand towels, goldfish art, ‘Edo Kiriko’ cut glass and other items that are closely associated with summer and nature will be on display to demonstrate summer lifestyles of the various periods in Japanese history.

KPH will display the intangible cultural property, ‘Nagaitachugata’ yukatas, using indigo-dye. The yukata experience service is also available for guests to try on throughout the year, whereby reservations could be made online through the KPH website.

The refreshing power of a cool summer breeze is represented in rounded uchiwa fans and folding sensu fans. The Ibasen Co Ltd will provide various fans printed with ‘Ukiyo-e’ Japanese colour prints.

In addition, Hataman Toen Ltd, maker of highly prized Imari Nabeshima style ceramics will display wind chimes; Yuzo Eto will display his ‘lacquer art’ depicting swimming goldfish; and, Todaya Shouten Co Ltd will display its artistic hand towels.
