BUNUS RIVER FUN WALK IN CONJUNCTION WITH WORLD RIVERS DAY


KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 1 (Bernama) -- In conjunction with the World Rivers Day 2018, the Bunus Fun Walk 4 River (Bunus FW4R) was organized by Sungai Bunus Action Group, in collaboration with Kuala Lumpur City Council (DBKL) and Local Agenda 21 Kuala Lumpur (LA21 KL).

EcoKnights, a local non-profit environmental NGO as one of the members of the Sungai Bunus Action Group together with its committee took the lead in hosting this event; there were more than 300 attendees from the public and corporate who took part in this fun walk of 3.5 km around the Bunus Retention Pond.

The aim of this event is to help the Sungai Bunus Action Group fund-raise for the development and improvement of a community-based projects and an urban farm along the 9 km stretch at Bunus River. This event was also a way to shed light on the importance of rivers and to promote the existence of Bunus River to the public for recreational purpose.

Present at the event were YB Datuk Dr Shahruddin bin Md Salleh, Deputy Minister of Ministry of Territories and YBhg Datuk Hj Mahadi bin Che Ngah, Executive Director of Planning DBKL, Tuan Hj. Nurazizi bin Mokhtar, Director of City Planning Department, Prof. Dr. Shamsul bin Sahibuddin, Pro-Vice Chancellor Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) KL and Puan Yasmin Rasyid, Chairperson of Sungai Bunus Action Group. Various partners from DBKL, LA21 KL, Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID), Starbucks Malaysia, Lendlease, Allianz Malaysia Berhad, Bike with Elena, EcoClean Technology Sdn Bhd, Ekovest, DHL, Expressionz and Yayasan Sejahtera joined in the event as well.

Puan Hajah Nik Mastura Diyana bt Nik Mohamad, Deputy Director of Township Planning DBKL stated, “The Local Agenda 21 Kuala Lumpur (LA21 KL) under Kuala Lumpur City Hall, since 2006 has introduced the concept of ‘community-based planning’ in the best management of the city. It is the concept of bridging partnerships between government, private and civil society to ensure that sustainable development can be implemented.”

“The Bunus Fun Walk 4 River 2018 program is a joint initiative under the Sungai Nadi Project LA21 KL project to revive the area around the river and flood retention pond. This program will provide awareness to the public to convert the untouched Bunus river and pond as a new recreation area. DBKL wishes to make Kuala Lumpur a home-friendly, clean and beautiful city,” she added.
